X-Terra Elite coils vs NOX coils

I recently picked up an X-Terra Elite to augment my Sovereign Elite on the beaches, and I plan on using the X-Terra Elite for coinshooting on land, due to the TID and depth indicators on the screen.

I know I can use NOX coils on my X-Terra Elite, but I don’t think the NOX can use the X-Terra Elite’s coils, so if that’s the case, that’s a bit interesting to me. One can use the other’s coils but not vice-versa?

But what I’m curious about is the price disparity of the X-Terra Elite’s coils vs the NOX coils. The X-Terra Elite’s coils look to sell for about ½ the price of a similar NOX coil. If I recall, I think the X-Terra Elite’s 12” elliptical retails for about $125.00, but a NOX 11” seem to be priced around $225/$250 or so.

Just wondering why the difference in prices between X-Terra Elite’s & NOX coils. Are NOX coils better, heavier duty, or have a built-in transmitter or booster that the X-Terra Elite’s coils may not have? Since we tend to equate price with quality, I’m trying to figure out why X-Terra Elite coils cost much less than NOX coils.

Anyone know why there’s such a large difference in price between X-Terra Elite & NOX coils? And why would an X-Terra Elite be able to use NOX coils, but a NOX can’t use X-Terra Elite’s coils, if that’s the case?

The difference is likely based on Vflex processor capability differences. The Nox processor requirements are more complex, hence they are more expensive to design and produce.

As far as I know, all of Minelab's current production VLF detectors utilize the Vflex technology that was pioneered in the first generation of X-Terras. It's not exactly a "booster", but it is essentially a transmitter chip in the coil that communicates with the pod.

I don't have the Elite - the Elite came out right after I bought the X-Terra Pro - figures!) and at the same time I bought the EQX06 coil and I don't know why, just did.
I knew I wanted a smaller trashy area coil and just bit for the EQX06 to go with it.
At the same time I bought the Nokta Double Score and it' smaller coil too. I think it was an 8" coil I added. Now they have the Triple...
Since bought, I have used both of these detectors twice - each once with the stock coil and each once with the smaller coils. Been using other detectors in between (White's and Tesoro mostly).
If down the road I get the Elite at least I know the smaller coil I have will still work. I was at the time wishing for a smaller sniper coil but the 6" will have to do for now.

That makes sense. I figured it might be a booster or transmitter that the NOX's would need, but X-Terra's wouldn't. That would explain when the X-Terra's can use the NOX coils, but not the other way around since the X-Terra coils wouldn't have that transmitter that the NOX's require. I'm just glad that the X-Terra coils are priced so much lower than the NOX's, lol.

A 6" coil is almost "sniperish" lol. I have a 5" for my Sovereign Elite, just never had an occasion to use it. I'd probably use it if I was using the Sovereign for coinshooting old houses, buildings, etc., as it can get in-between shrubs, tree roots, things like that, but I only tend to use the Sovereign on the beach. But now that I have an X-Terra Elite, I'll be using that one primarily for land hunting, but also on the beach, as it's lighter, waterproof, wireless headphones, and has bells & whistles on the screen like TID and Depth, along with the built-in flashlight for night hunting, and vibration on the handle.

They ALL have it anymore. The difference is in the Nox programming complexity and the chips to accommodate that difference.
It started with the first-generation X-Terras, then was next incorporated in the CTX3030. It's part of the "SmartCoil™" technology employed by just about every VLF detector Minelab makes now.
