XP Deus ... vs. ... Minelab E-Trac! :shrug:

So had owned a etrac but due to docs orders to keep me in this hobby i either needed harness-i had the proswing 45 loved it but very constricted to the detector. the etrac was deep and found silver all the time. loved it but recently traded for a Deus.

much lighter machine and much faster. so far a week under my belt with the deus. A few messages to andy and its getting better. one thing that i miss about the etrac was quick mask but with the deus made a mode similar to it. the next i love how u can tweak the tones on the deus. Also the XY screen is killer on caps.

Just like everyone else im digging more screw caps.

so far deus 5 silvers and a few wheats. im yet to dig a deep signal over 8+ but the parks i hit are trashy.

I hunt with hunter46356 and next time we are out and he gets a deep signal ill will check it with the deus
 
The 11 inch coil added some depth capabilities to the Deus in my opinion. If you run the Deus hot and I know you can't always do it the Deus can surprise you by hitting a deep one.
 
I would like to thank Andy for a brilliant explanation that cleared up a complicated issue. Brilliance is, of course, measured by the congruence to what I already though about it. While my personal experience is based on my SE Pro, I think it is sufficient. Keep up the good work! :detecting:
 
Here is a post I posted on Facebook I wanted to share

So this is my reasons
I love my etrac and owned it for about 6 months. My silver count sky rocketed and I was finding silver everywhere. I loved the tones and how I can tweak it all i wanted. I have had a injury on my shoulder about 2 years ago and the weight of the etrac. Also i hated how to change the coils with aftermarket coils it was hard to. But honestly it was the weight that was my issue and that you could not update it to have the latest software.I have tried every harness and it was just way to much wires and cords. It made detecting hard.
The reason I got the Deus (Mind you I have 3 weeks with this machine so far)
-Weight (its like a feather) I could swing the Etrac for a half of day but have ice on my shoulder all night the Deus is unreal it honestly feels like a toy
-I think it has more options on programming then the etrac ( you can set up to 5 tones and set your own tone for ex. I have iron as a grunt then foil and trash a one tone coins another tone) it makes it so easy
-Speed (the etrac is a slow machine and that is a fact. the slower you go the the better with the etrac but I would swing it way to fast anyways. The XP is a fast machine. Hands down its jawdropping.
-Wireless Wireless wireless need I say more
-its very compact
-cleaning ( I take mine in the shower ) not the head unit
-up to date and upgradeble
-double up (if you get the control unit and the headphone get the WS4 ) this is so if you get another coil you can mount one on the xp shaft and have another on another shaft and one person would have to hunt by tone. You get 2 detectors!!!!!
-I have the 9 inch coil and love. I have tried the 11 and all you gain is coverage I could not get deeper in my soil.
-anyplace i had the etrac null out I took the XP and picked out missed goodies (if you look at the link i found a silver plated fork in a very trashy area that was only inches deep that the etrac missed every time i hit that area.
-The battery life is amazing
-waterproof (i live near lake michigan ) and able to hunt the water now with the etrac i had to be carefull not to dunk the machine or in the rain. With the deus you can get a waterproof case that mounts on the shaft and no more early days when the rain moves in.
things i miss on the etrac is the quickmask mode but the deus has a XY mode that is very good and gives more detail.

Maybe Minelab can buy out Xp and create a hybrid of an Etrac and a Deus? LOL

They're both great machines.
 
I've used both and in my experience if you cherry pick silver in moderately iron infested areas the Minelab is for you hands down. You can pass on everything but silver. However, I can cherry pick "coins" to nearly the same degree and silver fairly well with the Deus. In every other scenario I prefer the XP. Gary's Sifter program opened my eyes to Deus as a coin shooter in iron the Minelab would go silent in. Love both but the Minelab has little place in my arsenal as the XP is also the best relic machine ive used in my medium-tough soil. But it is all about who you are and where you hunt so take it with a grain of salt......
 
I currently own both, and both for different reasons.. I feel instead of owning a half dozen machine capable to hunt in any situation, I've narrowed it down to just 2.. But I love this video on the tube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGwqHyUSUI8 :detecting:
 
I've had my E-Trac for 8 years and my Deus for 1 1/2 years.
Myself ... I use my Deus ( 9" coil ) over 95% of the time now.

I won't go into a detailed post about the pro's and con's of these two great detectors because that's already been discussed by some very experienced users.
I think it's safe to say that anyone out there would be very happy with either machine !
