XP ORX Elliptical HF Depth

New member
Recently purchased a XP ORX with Ellipitical HF coil. Noticed not much depth. I air tested with not to good results. Half dollar getting most depth. 1 Gold was 7", 2 Gold was 5", 3 Coin was 6", 4 Coin was 6". Factory settings. Is this what is to be expected ? Should I have chosen one of the other coils ?
Thanks !

Cant judge by air tests alone. Also different modes and frequencies matter. As to whether you should have chosen another coil? Only if it’s To be your only coil, because it has a smaller footprint and yes less depth than the 9” ones which I think are the best all around size. The elliptical is highly maneuverable and great in dense iron. This and 9” X35 make excellent combo.

What coil you use depends on where you are searching. High trash areas the elliptical is the best. Just remember depth is not everything.

I don’t put much bearing on Air testing. I have to reduce the sensitivity to 50 or less indoors to quiet the detector. You could get some Vid numbers and that’s about all. I have the 9” round HF coil and I am digging 6-10” deep coins regularly. I am impressed with its precision to locate coins right next to trash. I know the coils are very expensive. You might find someone willing to trade for a 9” round HF or 9” X35 coil . HH Tony

The Elliptical coil is deep in it's own way, sometimes this coil can find tiny items what other coils can not even detect, so in this instance it is deeper.
I like to think.of it as a specialist coil.
