yards vs fields

Dirtycoins

New member
I am using the 4.1 and do very well on old cabin sites for coins but when I hunt a grass yard I cant seem to find anything older than 1970's even though the homes are over 100 years old. Any suggestions? Could all the yard thatch have the older coins too deep? I have even tried switching to the Deep program. Had a little more trouble identifying targets and dug more trash with Deep but didn't find any good targets that I had missed

A lot of these homes have had fill dirt brought in, does the lawns look higher or landscaped a little. this could be why you don't see a lot of targets. I hunted and old park once and the same thing happened and then in found out that several years a go they brought in 2 feet of top soil and this was the problem for finding old coins.

Some of my best finds have been old house yards using the Deep program. They are usually fairly clean. If you're finding lots of trash, that suggests fill dirt. Thatch shouldnt be an issue. Also make sure you do the front yards first. They are always more productive with older houses than the back, including my own house. HH

I hunt beach homes in the " off season" these are houses that date turn of the century and some of them are loaded with silver from the early 20's to 60's we found a waliker and franklin half in one yard so I know no ones hit theses yards..
a lot of fun.
