Simplex or Apex?

I am wanting an updated backup detector. I got a Whites M6 that is my main detector and a Fisher F5 as a backup. Would the Simplex+ or the Garrett Apex be good in y'alls opinion?

Simplex is a much better value, that is updateable if needed. It’s audio is light years ahead of the Apex. A simple detector with many advanced high end features ! Waterproof ....... just plain beats the Apex and cost less ...... a no brainer !!! Simplex all day long !!!!!!

I have an Apex and I like it. I enjoy it's light weight, and the versatility of beach use or land use, even though I live in Ohio, as well. I especially like the wireless headphones. Once you learn the Apex's sounds, you'll find good targets like any other machine out there. Want more depth, go to the larger, Raider coil or other competitors coil.

Some people don't like it, and I get that. To each, his own. But there is no perfect detector; just one that fits your budget.

Of course, you can always hang in there a bit longer and wait for the Nokta SMF unit rumored for release in 2021.

Simplex is a very good machine. I love the build quality of the Makro products. That said, an Apex will crush a Simplex on a saltwater beach. Apex has a lot more settings.
The Apex will crush the Simplex on the beach because the Apex is multi- frequency.
Any multi-frequency detector will out preform a single- frequency detector in salt.

Yep, and it has more single frequencies than the Simplex. It can just do more.

Since when did more settings back a detector better??Your at the beach and you drop the detector in the water by accident.......simplex keeps on going and the Apex goes to the graveyard !!! That’s the truth !!! Garrett is sporting a very problematic detector, with poor performance!

Pretty interesting (sometimes boring) NOX vs Simplex in salt water. Even if you don't watch the whole video, the summary print at the end, says a lot.

I like everything about the simplex but the audio.Too busy imo,and the modulation sounds stretched on deeper targets rather than softer like the Garrett's . To each they're own, although I've never tried a apex I think I would take it over the two

One comment made in the previous video, is that when going to Beach Mode in the Simplex, the disc lower numbers are grayed out, so they can't be changed. Here's a very short video (actually by one of our forum members), that addresses that.

My friend had a simplex and detected with me on a saltwater beach with lots of purple sand he sold it after seeing what the equinox was like .

Not defending the Simplex as I don't have one, but there is a fair amount of $$$ difference between the two. If one only gets to the beach a couple of times a year, a water proof Simplex might be good enough? HH Jim tn

Hi All. I'll admit I bought the Apex because it had a lot of what I was looking for in a detector, and was a step into the world of SMF for Garrett. The detector is supposed to be field upgradable via usb, like the Simplex, 'Nox, and others. I'm hoping that Garrett comes thru with near future firmware update(s) to address some of the shortcomings just like Nokta did with the Simplex. That said the Simplex is a great machine, and Garrett has a chance to make the Apex great, too. Being a recently retired Electrical Engineer, I have sent suggestions regarding firmware improvements to Steve Moore and others within the Garrett organization that would go a long way to improving the Apex. They just have to allocate the manpower to address it and keep it fresh.

After what calabash digger relayed in his last video, Garrett apparently believes they are in great standing with this machine and their customers.

No other machine in history has received so much aftermarket care as the Simplex. Well, really, many of Nokta Makro’s machines were based purely on tester and customer input. That’s how to be successful right there. Minelab released, what? 3 updates for the NOX also? See, that’s how you get people to buy and appreciate your machines. Stand behind it and upgrade it.

Compare a 2.67 or 2.68 simplex to 2.78. It’s like a different detector. Awesome.

1. Since when did more settings back a detector better?? < No clue what this sentence means.

2. That’s the truth !!! The truth is SMF is better on the beach than single frequency. Not only is it truth, it's a fact.
