Manticore vs Legend

Tony-Ok

Well-known member
At this time with no manticores in general users hands ….. it’s just purely speculation. I think Minelab is pricing their detectors at what they think peoples buying habits are and what the market can stand. Minelab makes excellent detectors , but so does Nokta….. I would like to hear what everyone thinks about this . Please chime in !!! Tony

As correctly stated . . . 'purely speculation' at this time.
In the spring I might very well consider adding another metal detector.
With everything that is being stated N M and Dilek, are very attentive and responsive to the customers?
My observation their technicians (software writers) are second to none?
With their competitive pricing, and I have already noticed their build quality appears to be great?

Competition is becoming fierce?
Arguendo, at this time one can do nothing but speculate, I believe at this time with ol man winter quickly approaching that
is all I will do till spring.
Tony, thank you for starting this thread I will enjoy it.

Leatherneck,
Your welcome, I happen to be using a Legend now . Here in Oklahoma it’s way too hot , and the ground is like concrete. But my season is just beginning. Fall , winter and spring for me to hunt . Like you said Nokta brings a lot to the table !!!

I think Minelab is somewhat aggressive in their current pricing, but other co's continue to play catchup to their technology and Minelab is designing their own technology and not copying anyone else's. I would think that with as many Equinox's Minelab has sold at its price the Manticore at its price has to have considerably more going for it then what the Nox now is, not to mention, the Legend. I also think there is far less brand loyalty today, and if this is in fact, fact, Minelab knows this and seemingly would be reflected in their pricing. If the Manticore has better depth, is more emi resistant and unmasks better and has a better build quality, their pricing will no doubt work for them. My opinion, anyway. HH jim tn

9 months from now there will be lots of them available for 30% less and very little will not be in the ground that is there now. ML depends on marketing fervor to make a big splash as do the other companies. There are too many details yet to be determined. I'm the ultimate skeptic but I'm also on a waiting list.:)

I tend to wait and see how the rollout goes. Sometimes you can get a great deal on a detector that someone just didn’t fit their liking. They May have been expecting something else.

i think that when n/m gets hold of one and learns it they will be able to write software to make it id somewhat similar
Probably correct, but depending on the technology there are patent laws for protecting new technology getting copied for a period of time. Regardless of what everyone thinks about Minelab's pricing, they have been and are the leaders in detector technology. Everyone else has been playing catchup or is, or is about to be, out of business.

I am not a Minelab fanboy. In fact, the Equinox 600 I have is the first Minelab I have ever owned in 50 years of detecting. I'm just inferring that Minelab as a co isn't stupid. (I don't think.) They aren't going to put a $1500. price on a new offering that is only a bit better then their current $1000. offering or a competitors $700. one. As far as getting a certain (so called) high price, they had no problem with many detectorists paying the price for the CTX 3030. I hunt with 3 guys that have 5 CTX's between them, in fact.

Anyway, until the Manticore gets out and into some everyday users hands, everything about it is just speculation. HH jim tn

i have two counties basically to myself as ive only seen two other people in 20 years with detectors. All i have to do is basically get over the top of something

Apples to Oranges.
The $5000 Nokta Invenio would be a much more accurate comparison.
You could purchase several brand new Minelab Manticore's for the price of just 1 Invenio.
Makes the new Manticore seem like a great deal.
Time will tell.
November cant get here soon enough.

Upon contemplating (presently, all one can do is speculate?) the Manticore and it is allegedly 2D?
To compare it to the Invenio is to factor technology of ratio to proportion of probability?
That is perhaps the ultimate height of those in this hobby that are willing to spend the necessary funds to take the probability to a whole new level?
With that being said and realizing competition is now becoming fierce one must admit the manufacturers have realized those hobbyists are willing to pay for a higher probability of success?
I, for one would see no difference between $1,500.00, and $5,000.00. With the ultimate goal being significant increase of probability.
From what I have observed with a limited amount of research in the 3D metal detectors there is a significant degree of success with the additional features?
This thread has provoked fodder for food for thought!
Thanks, fellow members!

Leatherneck,

I bought the XP Deus 2 in January. Thought about selling it but decided to keep her. With that, I am on the pre-order list for the Manitoba. You only live once. If my wife finds out, well there you go. After I get the new Maticureable then another one will come out. Did I say I was a lollipop? :rage:

They made the price point for the manticore pretty high.

WHY???...because they can price it whatever they want to and they know people are going to buy it whether it works good or not.

I hope it works great for those who want one.

I also think when it hits the market........people will try it out and go back to their equinox.

A beep and dig machine can still find as much or more than the modern bells and whistle unit.

Another thing to consider is this new Manticore might flop too and be a big dud on the market.

That has happened with all of the companies.

I do not understand why companies are starting to show off unit before a release and get everyone excited and all claiming it is the best unit ever developed with their engineering team.....and then make the public wait unit it passes all of the test and firmware works right.

Guys may be waiting another 6 months before it hits the market.

While the legend users are having a blast and actually detecting with a complete set up of digging tools, pinpointers, the unit itself, extra coil, headphones, gas and lunch money too for under 1000.00.

Now, if we look at it this way, the legend is the real winner here and leaves the minelab manticore lacking with every aspect of the hobby.

Paystreak Superfreak seems to love his Legend with the hockey puck. I can watch and learn from this guy. One of a kind. Like the poker hand I LOST BIG with. "1 of a kind."

Old paystreak is one flow who just digs it all.... everything too and gets happy about it.

He has fun all of the time....he has a blast with the legend......makes me almost want one!!!

Was going to get one and like you got the Deus 2.....now have the ws6 as the so called master set up too wireless with the wsaii back phones.....real fun set up.

Very satisfied with xp Deus 2.

Am satisfied with the Deus 2..,...but always interested in other machines people use with real results

You're pretty much "right on" with your statements Tim---except for the Legend price point.------You can get into the game with that one right now for less than $600---and that's with the extra 6" coil included.
