XP Deus 2 Depth Concern

Has anyone done an air test of there Deus 2? I'm concerned that my unit with a 9" coil is not getting the depth it should. As an example, using a penny (copper, not zinc) in general mode and not changing any of the factory settings, I'm only getting 6 1/2". That doesn't seem right based on some of the videos I've seen. What's your opinion and can you tell me your results using a copper penny in general mode?

I found a war nickel about 10" deep in my trashy front yard. It was in one of those "hunted out" sections.

It's not a penny, but I hope this helps. I'd probably ran an MXT, an 800, and a Deus I over this spot and missed it, or heard it as iron among the roofing nails and rusted bits.

Something is wrong. Are you testing in your house next to the router or dimmer switch, near power lines, near an airport, or in line with a microwave tower or something like that? EMF will kill depth. If that is all you get away from these sources, you need to notify XP.

Picketwire, none of those you mentioned are an issue. If there is a problem, would it be the coil or the remote? I read somewhere that the guts of the deus is built into the coil and the information is transmitted to the remote or headphones, depending on your configuration. Don't know if that's true. but kind of makes sense since you can set up the deus with either the remote or the headphones.

Air testing in the house ?? I can do it with the sensitivity at 45 , if you get the point. You can use it to get an idea where the ID numbers fall , but depth indication will be way less ……. Don’t worry…. In the ground I am hitting coins at 10” in the test garden. If you haven’t found any yet , it’s because you haven’t got the coil over one yet . HH Tony

If it's not outside interference might contact dealer. Just saying is all. So many things can throw off a signal even when you don't realize that the interference is there. Such as cell phone to close to control box.

Where’s your sensitivity at? I just air tested a copper memorial in factory general program at 80 sensitivity and it responds with good audio and ID at 9”. Normally in the field I can run sensitivity in the mid 90’s. I found a wheat today in a fairground at 9-10” in the ground, so it’s capable, but your sensitivity has to be up there.

IDX, I used the factory settings for the General search program. Just checked and the factory sensitivity for General is 95.

In that case if all of the test pieces are in order something else is wrong IMO. Like faulty remote, coil, something.

Sweep speed is important and affects depth. Too slow = less depth. Try faster sweep speed.

I went on a hunt yesterday and did manage to dig a few deeper targets, so maybe my concerns are unfounded. I will say there's a lot to like about the Deus 2, but if the confidence isn't there then it takes the fun out of detecting. Time will tell. I've had a lot of different detectors over the years, some click with you, others don't.

Did a test between d1 with 11 inch coil and d2 with 9 inch coil and it’s double the depth on silver coins in air ,,the d1 was quite poor in fact at just 5 inches on sterling silver coins, using sonar prog

I know what the manual says regarding audio response settings and cautions that too high of a setting affects the ability to assess depth and can amplify small false signals and perhaps mask good targets. I get that But the best advice I was given when I was complaining that I was not getting the depth I was used to with my D1 compared to the Nox 800 was turn up the audio response. For me in my ground and how I was hunting it made a world of difference. And I do the same with the D2. I run it at 6 and going over ground I've hunted a lot with other machines consistently dig up deeper targets. Dimes at 8 inches where I've swept many times before. My 2 cents and it works for me. Your mileage may vary.

I'll definitely give that a try. I normally run my audio response at 3 or 4

Completely what I’ve been experiencing as well, and running the Silver Slayer setup I’m finding 7-9” coins on edge in places I’ve spent a lot of time in with my CTX and Explorer. And this is using the 9” coil! Good obviously repeating two way hits. I’ve got about 20 hours on the D2 now and have found 11 silver coins and 19 wheats between 2 fairgrounds that were effectively dead before. That says ALOT to me and my own situation…like, it allows the hobby to even continue. Audio response 6, Sens as high as possible and Reactivity 1-1.5 is what has been bringing results, along with basing this setup off of the Fast program. This machine has been out for awhile now and much has been said about it. Being a previous hardcore Minelab guy, this is really a shock to my thought process. If it’s one thing I have re-affirmed to myself, it is….keep an open mind about this hobby. Just when you think there’s nothing left to find, you are very likely wrong about that.

Some have come back to me and commented that audio response has no affect on depth or performance .Well for me if I'm able to hear a target better with a higher audio response setting I'm getting better performance.
When I watched a depth comparison video from Spain I think it was showing the Manticore kick ass on the D2 and the D2 audio response was set on 4 I wanted to holler at those guys to turn it up!
They didn’t hear me.
And maybe the Manticore will kick ass but I’ve decided to cancel my pre order and focus on getting better with the D2.
Not because of that video. I just know I have a lot more to learn about what I have.
