Wax Seal Matrix? CW Era Eagle

I think this is a Seal Matrix for imprinting an Eagle into a wax seal on letters. At first I thought it was an impression made in lead of the Reverse of an old coin, but there are no words or other marks I can see. The back is shaped similar to other Matrix I have seen that had a small, round...

    BIG & OLD Seated Silver

Saddled up really early Saturday morning with three other members of the Wild Bunch, Dave, Brad, & Steve, to make the 3+ hour drive to our CW Era honey hole. Apparently, something was right with the conditions because buttons and old silver coins were hot today. My Deus performed very well in...

Check Out What XP Sent Me :clapping:

Thanks XP for awarding me this very cool camera for the story I submitted to the "XP DEUS Real Finds Contest". I hoped I had a shot at winning, but never really expected to. Great surprise! Here is a link to my winning story...

How can I preserve thin brass CW era hat pin and buttons?

I have a Jefferson Davis Eagle Hat Pin, plus some Eagle Buttons I found and I need to preserve them. The hat pin has a bad crack so I need to restore the metal to help it stay whole. I'm not going to clean the pin any more due to it's fragile state but I'm hoping someone can give me some ideas...

1858 Jefferson Davis "Hardee Hat" Eagle Pin

This is probably one of the most significant, and most likely, a once in a lifetime Relic find for me. It's in amazing condition considering it's been in the ground for around 156 years and I may never top this because it is a Hat Pin that was issued to Enlisted Men only, who were required to...

Eagle Decoration for CW or pre CW Hat???

Found this beauty today along with three Eagle buttons and many old bullets. Any ideas about what it is? Have only done a field rinse on them and I think they will clean up nice.

Sword Scabbard Hanger Band, Silver, & More

I was glad to get out for a couple of hunts Sunday and Monday with Dave and Brad. Had a good time finding some pretty cool relics, artifacts, jewelry, and coins. My favorite find was this Gold Plated Scabbard Hanger Band which was what attached a sword scabbard to a belt. It is part of a Patriarch

PAX AUT BELLUM Sword Scabbard Top

I know this is a gold plated, sword scabbard top piece, but so far I have not been able to date it or associate it with a particular group or culture. I found it at a house that was the first one built in a town around 1870. This home was well known in the area and had large social gatherings...

What Inspired you to start Detecting?

I was about 10 years old (around 1965), we were having our regular Saturday afternoon baseball game with about 8 kids at the old ball field behind the school after the morning cartoons and chores were done, when this Old Man in his 40's or 50'S :) walks behind the backstop swinging this weird...

    Black Friday Recoveries

Enjoyed finding money while our wives were spending money Friday. Don't know about Dave and Brad, but I didn't find near enough to cover what my wife spent. We had a good day making nice finds at three of the four spots we hunted, even though the third spot was a fluke. My finds were: 2...

47 CW Era Bullets in One Hunt

Sounds too good to be true, but I love it when a plan comes together. I decided to use my CTX with the 17" coil Relic hunting for the first time in an area that we had pretty well cleaned out down to about 9" deep with other machines. Have had good luck lately recovering deep coins in town with...

Ring, Silver Dime, "V" Nickel, & Token

Hunted several new spots Sat. with Dave and my new friend Pete who is Dave's kinfolk. Real nice fellow that is new to the hobby and is catching on fast. I was swinging the 17" CTX Coil, fondly referred to by Dave as my "AWACs" Coil due to it's enormity. PCJoe got me hooked on using it and it...

Beautiful "Semi Key Date" Standing Liberty

Thanks PCJoe for taking me to one of your favorite spots. It's always a pleasure hunting with you. I had a tough day of detecting with that GIANT 17" coil but it paid off with my one and only good find...a semi key date 1917-D Standing Liberty Quarter in VF-25 (Very Fine) condition. I rarely...
