    Check this out

Yep Rick, I have the Compass Coin Magnum of the same era. Very similar. Heavy, extremely un-ergonomic, took 12 AA batteries and chewed though them quickly, not very deep, very slow response on the meter...... But it seemed able to ignore nails co-located with other targets. I fired mine up a...

Hey Dave, Headed you way tomorrow. Debated even bringing detector, must be close to ground freezing? More IHs this time than usual, XP2's doing? Chris

First time Water detecting. 10 cents richer.

Hello all, I bought a sand scoop a couple of years ago. Today it and my NOX 800 got wet. I can see there will be a learning curve to climb. Didn't have nearly as many targets as I had assumed. Then I had a heck of a time scooping the target. I quit on the first dozen or so targets after...

Street construction seated and friends. First attempt at water detecting.

Howdy All, It's been quite some time since I found anything worth posting. I'm up in Minnesota, came across a couple of towns with street construction projects. The 1876 dime came from a town near Minnnesota's Iron Range. Very weird detecting; few non-ferrous targets, and couldn't lock on...

Minelab explorer XS not powering up.

Yes, I think the black and red wires to the PCB are the wires from battery terminals. Check for 12V there with the battery installed in the handle. And also there are two PCB boards plugged together. Try prying them apart and reseating them.

Minelab explorer XS not powering up.

Amen to all that woodbutcher. I've also seen dirty and bent contacts on my machines.

Minelab explorer XS not powering up.

Could be all sorts of things other than capacitor. Did you check wiring from battery to control board? Check battery voltage?

Loss of long time forum friend Monte Berry 😥

Frequencies is use at any one time

It depends. Years ago I tried to read up on all the ML patents and white papers I could find. Not sure I ever understood it completely and the time elapsed since hasn't helped. Basically all the FBS detectors from Minelab transmit square waves at two different frequencies. One frequency is...

    Charging batteries using alkaline pack?

I'm with Trojdor: Eneloops or any quality low self discharge NiMH cells work well, I've used them on all my detectors including CTX and Explorers. They cost about double the price of a high quality Alkaline, but you can recharge them thousands of times. Regular NiMH cells may be rated for...

    Summary of 2022 Finds

Dave, Failed to meet up again this past year. Maybe next. How many silvers did you get? And James? Chris

    The Old SE Is Sick

Hmmm, I've had an XS since the bronze age and have seen the problem you describe before. Every time it was caused by a bad coil wire; usually in the 5 pin coil connector. You can take them apart and look for a broken/loose wire. If you have already tried swapping coils or trying no coil as...

    Battery question

I'm with Mark (ohio). I have several alkaline packs filled with eneloop Ni-HM batteries for my XS, XS2, and CTX. They cost $2-3 apiece and can be charged several thousand times. Basically use them twice and already cheaper than disposable alkaline batteries. The key is to buy low self...

White Whale - Seated Half !!!!

Congrats Dave, Seated anything is pretty rare up your way. Again, an amazing amount of nickels, I'm wondering if they were discriminated out by previous MDers. Maybe we can get together and detect this summer. Chris(SoCenWI)
