Short hunt with Dig and found one small piece of gold

Got a call from Rob (Dig) this afternoon and went detecting with him for an hour or so. I managed to find this piece of a Mickey Mouse ring. Looks like it had been out there a long time because it had some green sand stuck to the back side of it. Thanks Rob! I really needed a break from what I...

Request for help finding lost wedding ring on Sanibel Island

I received the following email from the president of the Suncoast Research and Recovery Club in Saint Petersburg, FL. Sanibel is a bit far for anyone in our area to travel to. Maybe there is someone in the Sanibel or Ft. Myers area that could help this guy out. He says he wants to rent a...

Wet sand hunt & Dig gets a new detector

Met up with Dig tonight to test out his new White's Dual Field Surf PI machine. We did some comparisons between it and my Excalibur II with 10" coil. We buried some gold rings and it seems that the PI does about as well as the Excalibur in the pinpoint mode. The Excalibur would loose the...

    Gold finds

I haven't been detecting much lately due to work and a case of bronchitis that I'm just getting over. A couple of weeks ago I went detecting with Dig and got lucky with two nice gold finds. The bottom was too rocky for scooping so I used a mask & snorkel and fanned the targets out of the sand...

Anyone carry a knife with them when water hunting?

I've thought about carrying one of those diver's knives. Might come in handy if I get in a bad situation with a shark :yikes: Do any of you carry a knife, and if so, why? John

Just got back from Costa Rica

I just got back from two weeks of driving the roads in Costa Rica with my sister and my brother-in-law. My GPS receiver saved our butts on several occasions. Driving in Costa Rica is nothing like it is here in the USA. Signs are few and often confusing. I brought along my Lowrance iFinder...

Anyone ever use the Ewa Marine camera housing?

Ewa Marine makes inexpensive housings for most cameras. I've never tried one myself. They have been around for many years. Here is the website url: http://www.ewa-marine.com/english/index.htm John

Need some advice on a new battery charger

The original charger that came with my Excalibur about ten years ago finally quit working. It puts out 15 volts at 150 milliamps which will charge my 1700 mah battery pack in 16 hours. The new Minelab chargers only put out 60 milliamps. That would take about 40 hours to charge the 1700 mah...

    Coordinates for Costa Rica locations

Does anyone know where I can find GPS coordinates for cities in Costa Rica? The Lowrance MapCreate software only has major roads and a few of the larger cities. Thanks in advance. ~John

    iFinder H2Oc altitude question

Does anyone know why my iFinder H2Oc consistently reports the altitude as approximately 100 feet above sea level when it's actually only about five feet above sea level? It does this when the EPE is as low as 15 feet and it's getting a WAAS signal. Thanks in advance. ~John

Import DeLorme Street Atlas USA routes into MapCreate 6

I just got myself a Lowrance iFinder H2Oc with the plus package. The card reader is defective so I can't load any maps until Lowrance sends me a new one. One thing I don't like about MapCreate is that it doesn't automatically create routes for road trips. I found that I can import routes...

    iFinder H2O map detail question

I have two questions about the Lowrance iFinder H2O. 1. What kind of map detail does the built-in background map have? Does is show only major highways or does it also show small back roads too? 2. How important do you think a color display is? Is it worth the extra $100? Thanks!, John

Having a problem with my Garmin GPS 38

The batteries died in my Garmin GPS 38. I installed a new set of batteries and powered it up. Instead of the unit displaying all of the satellites overhead and their signal strengths it only displays satellite number 01 and it is always positioned on the northern horizon. I tried choosing my...
