Shoulda, woulda, coulda ... but didn't.

So many things we shoulda done today..... Shoulda prepared for a biz trip tomorrow, shoulda mowed the grass, shoulda gone through the mail from the last week. But, didn't do any o' that stuff. I just love this autumn cool air. There''s a park nearby where periodic festivals are held. It's...

    My Town

Twenty five years ago I wrote a self publshed history of our little hamlet of Flicksville, PA. I had moved here seven years earlier and my interest in local history led me to talk to all the long-time residents, many of whom descended from generations of local dwellers. I formed great...

AT Pro --> Gold --> Happy Reunion????

At the seashore this weekend visiting my daughter et al. Weather was beautiful so even though after Labor Day, the beach was pretty full. We lazed in the sun by the jetty, catching up, laughing, working the NYT puzzle and doing some people watching. I was particularly attentive toward...

    Down By The Seashore

Visiting the Jersey shore this weekend and, since the weather was so great, there was a good-sized beach crowd. Swung the AT Pro as evening fell. Found this loot in pretty short time. My non-detector family looked on with skepticism. As I easily dug one item after another their scoffing began...

    NJ Farmhouse Finds

Friends of ours invited us to hunt their 1800's farmhouse this morning that has been in husband's family for generations. Jen used her XTerra and I took my two AT Pros, loaning one to the husband. Since he used to swing minesweepers in the service his learning curve was pretty quick. Within a...

    Ireland Find

This came up in a recent hunt on an estate in Ireland. Owner of the estate thinks it has something to do with a gun, such as holding gun powder. It has a screw top with a rubber gasket. The top is attached to the long, spoon-like attachment. The container measures about 4-5" in length.

    Florida Beach Finds

Jen and I in southern Florida escaping the cold north for a couple weeks. Hit the beach yesterday - Jen found some clad and I found some silver. Maybe today will be her day.

    1899 V Nickel

Last Sunday Jen and I needed to drop some stuff at her brother's house. On a whim we threw in the detectors to check out a park near our destination. It featured a rope swing that Jen remembers from 20 years ago and it's location near some old buildings made it a good candidate for hunting. One...

Smaller Coil and Attentiveness: Silver in the Bag.

I finally got to experience what I've read about so often. We were hunting behind my mother in law's house, a site we've worked over pretty well but this time with small coils. I put a 5x8 DD on the AT Pro and it was like putting on new ears. Formerly scratchy, obscure gibberish suddenly...

    Eating Our Wheaties

Arrived at Jen's Mom's circa 1890s house in coal country on Saturday evening armed to the gills with detecting gear. This is her mother's childhood and current home and we've hunted the yard many times with our cheap little Bounty Hunter and more recently with Jen's Xterra 305 and my AT Pro...

Don't Let This Happen To a You....

Arrived at the river with keen expectations and optimism high. We had some walking to do from the parking lot so I decided to change my batteries first because they were borderline. I rotated the cover on the AT Pro and eked it out as the rubber gasket fits tightly. As soon as the cap came out...

    Old House and Garage Hunt

Jen and I detected an abandoned house and garage yesterday. The garage was a repair shop with a sideline as a candy store. Neither have been occupied in probably 50 years and never had plumbing. Although still standing both are in sad shape. Old cars and trucks well beyond restoring are...

    Coat the pinpointer?

Does anyone silicone coat their pinpointer for underwater use? How's it working for you? How did you go about it?

    Ok, here's the plan ....

Got in late last night from our "down east" vacation. Gotta unpack, but then the plan is to hunt the creek that runs through our town. As much as anything that got me started on this hobby is the old grist mill at the center of town. The race and mill pond are long since dried up. I was sure...

    Clothing Store Good Luck Token

Searching near Portland, ME, I came across this interesting token. Most fascinating was the swastika symbol on the back. The American Clothing Co. was established in 1902 and is not in existence today. A little more googling led me to this site...
