    What the heck is this?

I found this in the same area I have been finding lots of Civil War relics. Any clues? The material wrapped around the center metal base appears to me made from old paper. [attachment 282357 what.jpg] [attachment 282358 what1.jpg] [attachment 282359 what2.jpg]

    Iron Relic ID

I have been hunting an older site that has been producing a lot of Civil War bullets both dropped and fired. I found these two interesting pieces of iron in the same general area. One of them is some type of handle, but to what. The other I think may be a horse collar, but did they make them out...

    Button or Shotgun Cap????

I found this where I have been finding a lot of civil war bullets. It was very deep. I thought it was a shotgun shell, but then I looked at the inside with a loupe. It appears to have fabric inside. Anyone know what this is? Thanks in advance. [attachment 280600 top.jpg] [attachment 280601...

    Copper Cap?

I believe this is copper. It rings up on my CTX 3030 right where copper does. It has a nice green patina. It is very smooth, light, thin but yet very strong. It looks like a cap to something, but what? Anyone seen anything like it? Thanks in advance.

    Thought I had a sword!!!!!!

My son and I were hunting a small area in the woods that has been producing small silver coins and for a minute or two, I thought I had a sword! We filmed the unearthing. Check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW4jhMXXLWs

Great Relic Hunting In the Woods

My son and I had a great day using the CTX relic hunting in the woods. We found all sorts of great stuff and I am going to put a video of the hunt together soon. For the mean time, here are some pics! We found two wheaties, two 1950's pennies. An old log splitting wedge. 2 musket balls and part...

    Target separation - Multiple Targets Iron&Gold - Iron&Silver???

I just did a really interesting test in my front yard. I have heard the CTX will pick up two targets at once when using ferrous coin for target separation. I had to put it to the test. I plan on making a video tomorrow, but here is what I found. I used a good sized iron ship spike for the iron...

    Bullet ID

[attachment 275401 bullets.jpg]I found all three of these very close to each other. I know the one on the far left is a bullet. The other two I am not so sure about. I also found an old 50 cal shell in the same area. Anyone know what these might be? Thanks!

Do you dig signals that overload the ctx 3030?

Every once in a while I get a target that overloads the machine. I guess it would depend on the evironment, but do you guys normally dig these or leave them?

best settings for iron infested beach

While my CTX is in the shop I have been hunting a beach that is loaded with iron. Every inch there is an iron target and some of them are huge. I have managed to pick up a few small silver targets from all the iron with the good old excal, but it is really tough. What settings on the ctx would...

Tiny Piece of Gold, I think....

I found this at the beach with the CTX. It is only 1/4 inch across. It is heavy. When I first looked at it through a loop, I could see a small fleck of gold. I took some acid from a 14k test kit and dripped it on the piece. More gold appeared. I know this is a long shot, but anyone have any clue...

    Higher Sensitivity Equal More Depth?

I have only used the CTX on beaches and I was wondering what the pros think. Does a higher sensitivity give you more depth? I am not sure that it does. A higher sensitivity does seem to react better to targets that are not directly under the coil. I have found several deep targets with a lower...
