whites dfx or whites mxt pro

I've had them both and the MXT Pro is definitely the one I would go with. It's simple to operate and just works. The DFX is not a bad detector, but it's very complex and doesn't get you anything over the MXT for all that extra complexity. Just noticed this is an old thread. My 2 cents...

    Thank you!

Me too. Thank you Findmall and White's!

V3I buy or not to buy??

I really like my V3i. It's my main detector, although I also have a few other detectors I rotate through now and again. The V3i is the most sophisticated detector ever made. It's a dream come true for a detectorist who also likes to tinker and learn detectors since so many things are...

    Simplex problem

Just to follow up, my replacement Simplex arrived today and it works GREAT. The old unit is on its way back to the distributor. The new unit fired right up right out of the box. Excellent service from Nokta and their distributor!(y) I've had it out in my back yard test garden and I know...

    Simplex problem

Every mass produced item has a few stinkers that are turned out, it's just the law of numbers. I just thought it was of interest that I had the exact same problem the original poster had. Maybe Nokta can identify a weakness in the design somewhere and correct it in a future revision if this...

    Simplex problem

My new Simplex had the exact same problem right out of the box when it arrived at my house last week. Didn't even have a chance to use it at all. I could not get it to turn on and when plugged into the charger would only flash on and off every couple seconds in a sort of endless reboot cycle...

Any word on those optional Simplex coils?

A 7", 8" or even 9" concentric would be great. I think 8" would be the sweet spot, but I'd take any of them. The stock 11" coil is just too big for many purposes.

6 years long went by since selling my v3i. Got One again!!

Or just improve the ground balance circuit and make the disc audio more responsive and communicative. Great detector though. Far ahead of its time and underappreciated for the engineering marvel it is.

If you could keep 3 what would you pick and why?

I'd keep the V3i, the MXT Pro, and the "new" IDX. The MXT Pro can do everything the M6 can do, but better. The V3i, well, just because it's top of the line and a lot of fun to experiment and learn with. And the IDX because they have been out of production a long time and are getting hard to...

    Faster VX3

Yes, but I would actually turn the sensitivity down a couple notches for trashy sites. In the trash you're not really after depth but separation. Turning down the sensitivity is a lot like putting on a small col, which is what you want. As a bonus, it will be smoother and easier to handle.

    Winter tune up.

I sent mine in last winter for a tune up. Nothing was wrong, in fact it worked great, but the warranty was about up, so I figured I'd send it in. The replaced a ribbon connector with an upgraded part and checked calibration, which was still good. It came back working just as great as it did...

Whites 5.3 coil Hitting a 9+ inch penny and dime on V3i?

My 5.3 goes about as deep as my 6x10DD, about 6-7," so what you are describing sounds about right. Of course, depth is highly soil dependent, but in my fairly mild soil, that's what I get. As for the clicking, I can't tell you. If it's when you hold it up in the air away from the ground or...

Went out to my coin garden with my V3i

Running single frequency gets you a lot more depth. Like on the order of 30% more. The three frequency is great for jewelry or when hunting for shallower targets, but to get any really good depth, you need to run in single frequency. I use both single and 3 F depending on what type of hunting...

Took out my new to me V3i

It doesn't matter. Once you lower the RX gain, you can leave the DS and AM sens at the factory settings. Works for me. All you really need to do is simulate a weak target, and reducing RX gain accomplishes that.

Took out my new to me V3i

A good way to set the filter for your particular soil conditions: First find a good isolated mid-depth target, 4-6" with a solid repeatable tone and ID. It doesn't matter what it is as long as it's non-ferrous, a pulltab works great for this, or a mid-depth penny. Then lower the RX gain waaay...
