Did a Good Deed (I hope)

I did press the button while walking around, hoping to hear the car's horn. No luck. Then I hung the keys on the fence. Anytime I go by there, I'll look to see if they're gone. Cheers, Joe

Did a Good Deed (I hope)

On a Spring day in Jacksonville, Florida, swinging the coil with the Garrett GTI2500, on some curb strips. Got a signal and image of a target under some leaves. Up came a set of car keys. Some poor guy lost his keys to his car. He must have spent a lot of time looking for them. What to do...

    Thoughts on Garrett Apex

That's an excellent review of the Apex, plus good descriptions of how those finds were placed. Reading it is almost like being there. A separate volume setting for "iron audio" sounds like it's a valuable addition to a detector.

Spanish Half Reale and some Relics from the farm fields

I was wondering the same thing. Why would somebody bend it in half, almost to the point of breaking it ... but still keep it all together?

A Buff and other neat stuff

Could you post a picture of the Buffalo side? Cheers, Joe

A Buff and other neat stuff

Any time you find a Buffalo nickel (also called "Indian Head nickel") and you can read the date, you have a good find. Probably the one you have found didn't get carried around very much, before somebody dropped it. Also, a nickel was a lot in those days. I've been around long enough to know...

Out on the Curb Strips Again

Looks like an old broom handle will fix that ... Maybe better to use a piece of plastic PVC pipe, or even some aluminum pipe. Best of luck with it. Cheers, Joe

Out on the Curb Strips Again

Yes ... Thanks for the call! I didn't know what it was, until you called it. Here's a closer view.

Out on the Curb Strips Again

In air testing it detects a dime at 10 inches. (I know "air testing" isn't the same as "in the ground".) In the ground here in Jacksonville, Florida it has pulled up dimes at 7 inches. Most of the coins are 3 to 5 inches in the older neighborhoods here, going back to the early 1900s. We...

Out on the Curb Strips Again

Nothing fancy ... can't complain. It was a good day, fresh air and sunshine, swinging the coil. All finds on a couple of curb strips, with the Garrett GTI-2500. The VW emblem was a surface find (I could stick it on my Ford). Question: Why would anyone paint a Lincoln cent with white...

    Detecting in Afghanistan

In today's news ... No control panel, so it looks like a "Beep and Dig" unit. But be careful digging. Cheers, Joe

    Wheat fest and some silver.

Outstanding! What kind of place were you on for finding all of that? Curb strips, schoolyards, fields? Cheers, Joe

    Found a Turkish Coin

Out on a curb strip in Jacksonville, Florida . . . it's a cool day, good for detecting. That's not where you'd expect to find a coin from Turkey . . . it's a 1965 "10 KURUS" copper coin. Also, iIt has some wheat ears . . . goes along with the US 1952 Wheat Cent found in the same curb...

    First Finds of the Year

On a couple of curb strips here in Jacksonville, Florida . . . a good start to the New Year. I didn't expect to find a coin from Australia ... It's King George VI. Can't make out the date but it seems to end in an "8", which makes it either 1938 or 1948. Happy finds and cheers to all in the...
