    Manticore loves iron

In my limited experience, Manticore is very hot on nails but it also has the tools to mitigate the falsing. Consider using the stabilizer at 4 or 5 and see if that helps quiet down the nails. Watch the 2D screen and if the target is showing in the iron area and not on the center line, pass on...

Manticore Recovery in Heavy Iron and Trash

It has been a few weeks since I played in the dirt, so today moreb and I took our Manticores out to one of my old haunts. This spot is a fairground site and I slayed the silver here with the E-Trac and CTX a decade ago. I first learned the deadly combination of the 8x5 SEF coil and the E-trac...

    3rd hunt with new Manticore

I haven't tried to pinpoint with the button yet because I am using the M9 coil, and am typically in heavy iron carpets. I have dabbled with the wiggle-back method a-la Minelab FBS machines, and it seems to help centering the target. I am generally (carefully) digging my plugs the size of the M9.

How I Came to Love the Beast

I am hesitant to post them because they are not my personally created settings and I swiped them from another place. I don't want to take the credit for someone else's work. The settings are also only for high iron trash spots, not general or beach use. I'll send you a message if that is ok.

How I Came to Love the Beast

I will give that a try next time I get a deep signal. Does it only affect the audio or will it have an impact on the VID/2D screen? We will see. I'll be going out on a hunt in a day. I give full credit to the excellent videos out there. I watched hours of in-field hunts and it truly helped me...

How I Came to Love the Beast

Unfortunately, I live about as far away from a beach as one can get in the US so I will save all the gold for you! I have seen the posts and videos Manticore vacuuming up the gold on the beaches. I envy you costal folk so much. Yeah, I feel like the Manticore's depth gauge, at least the first...

How I Came to Love the Beast

A month ago, I was detecting with my friend moreb (from this here forum right here) and at our first spot we hit a carpet of burned nails with our CTX machines. After 30 minutes or so of misery and no finds other than clad, even with the small coils, we packed up and hit another spot. That is...

Fail to Pinpoint On End Coins

You are correct that coins on edge are pretty hard to center, especially the deep ones. The "Minelab FBS Wiggle-Back" technique helps center them after you have used your machine pinpointing, but you will still sometimes have to dig into the sidewall of the plugs to get your coin. The good thing...

    CTX 3030 My first Hunt

I had the 6" for a few years, but I didn't like it. My disdain was not in its performance, but in the hunting style of going super slow and covering such a small swath of ground. In very trashy spots where I have to go low and slow, I prefer the 5x10 Coiltek with my CTX. I use recovery fast and...

    Tek Point Pinpointer noise

I have a backup pulse induction pinpointer that will make my CTX go crazy if I point it towards the coil. Is your Tek Point a pulse?

    Changing the CTX Brake Pads

I have had my CTX since Memorial Day 2012, and the shaft cam locks ("brake pads") have finally worn themselves down that it is affecting my happiness while detecting. The lower rods barely hit the sidewall with the cam lock engaged, causing the coil to wobble and rotate as it pleases. This is...

    Hit Big Silver

I was over 100 yards away at the time, and I knew by his "pimp stroll" that he had something good. We had just talked about half dollars a few weeks earlier, and moreb said that he had only found one Franklin. Well, make that TWO now. The fact that he picked this one out THAT deep, and in an...

    Copying error ?

Hmmm, I'm not sure. You'll have to send me the LAT/LON of some of your most productive sites so I can analyze.... But seriously, I have never received that error in my 10 years of using the CTX.

Where are all the CTX users?

Job well done! You need to develop a gold dance for future gold finds, or at least a loud gold holler. I had no idea you struck gold until we were leaving for lunch.

with regrets, I sold my CTX3030 after 11 months.

Sorry to see you go. The harness was hard for me at first, too, but I am quite used to it now. If that is not your jam, then you were wise to move on to a lighter machine.

    Under water detecting question

My machine has been out of warranty for 7 years, so I have no recent experience with this. But I do dunk the coil when the opportunity arises. I do not do any noise cancels under the water.

    Old building tear down

Small coil, low and slow. In a site like this, I would use a mostly-open pattern in combine with everything FE 32 and higher discriminated out.

    Finally received my ctx

Welcome to the cool kids table!

Where are all the CTX users?

Those old videos are still relevant. There is no magic "turn on and go" setting for every environment for the CTX. Due to its highly customizable and complex features, it will take trial and error for you to figure out what settings work best for you in your dirt. When you get your coil over...

    Multi target hole madness

Yes! This is one of the best features of the CTX. I enjoy watching it "tell" me that I have multiple targets under coil.
