    GP/GPX coil experiment risk?

I tried the TDI Beach Hog on my Extreme. Worked great but when it overloaded because getting to near my scoop there was a nasty sounding low frequency oscillation dounfing like the front end frying. Turned everything off and back on and all is good. I’m using a nuggetfinder amp and a buck...

So while beach hunting, always getting stopped for questions about machines and detecting.

Some of the people I’ve met and talked with are much more memorable than the targets I found that day...

    Whites closing their plant.

At least you can buy parts from them and they remain priced decently. Just got a pod backpiece for my XLT $10.

Spectrum XLT rear display cover broken

I discovered the rear of my Spectrum XLT's display pod cover is broken and the rest hanging from a ribbon cable. I don't see an obvious way to separate the cover from the front cover piece. Are there hidden screws, or do I pry and snap if off - what's the trick? Also I you know of a spare rear...

Excalibur running down batteries too fast

You might have a poor battery connection somewhere that creates a voltage drop. Measure the current to see if it is normal. If so, measure the voltage right at the board to see if it is the same as across the battery.

    Cleansweep coil

I have a Tejon that is in such great shape, with 3 coils. I mainly beach hunt though so I got other detectors for the beach. But now the beaches have been lacking targets and the best shot is the dry. I wonder if it is worth searching for a Cleansweep for it for the dry. Would be a lighter setup...

    good water/dive boot

On second pair trilastic. Seem good but try not pulling them off by pressing heel with other foot - they can come apart at the seam. I use 2.5mm socks.

    CTX 3030 Waterproof Connectors

Is there a CTX to 3.5mm one piece adapter sold somewhere or do I need to make one?

Will we ever see a light weight CTX ?

I was going to try putting the CTX pod and battery on my belt or something but then you lose the counterbalance. The battery could be made lighter with just 2 cells instead of 4. After using it last Saturday at the beach I think the main issue is using it in the water - it just doesn’t want to...

    SoCal beaches open for detecting?

I tried Laguna and Aliso Saturday. Laguna was not bad. I hunted 7am til 10:45am and most people were walking their dog or getting exercise and many had masks. After that I went to Aliso - ton of people, few or no masks, parking lot full so I gave up. So go early or evenings. Cams at Laguna...

    Save all aluminum

Here in southern California we lost the major chain of reclamation centers. Anything left has huge lines as it is a major source of income for some people. How many returned cans have the virus on them too... i now give mine to a school and lose 40$ a month I used to get.

    17" coil....yea or nay?

Yeah even with the harness you still have to swing the detector mass sideways and your elbow now will start complaining.
  20. B

Not sure what I was thinking,,

That looks totaly fixable. Look at the pcb and a schematic of a similar detector and match up functional areas then understand what the pots do and wire them up. You’ll learn alot and be proud of yourself. Trade ya a minelab pinpointer for it.
