    What is this? Anybody know?

It would interesting if you could go back to the area if you know where it is and can access it… Hard to tell what else could be there. I agree with you of it possibly being pre civil war area. Was the old man metal detecting when he found it? That is quite the intriguing find!

The 8 inch Tornado cable problem

Rick, This issue with the cracking of the sheathing came up on either this forum or another several years ago. At the time I still had a Sovereign GT and was concerned. From my understanding the wire sheathing material was changed at some point and just like the cable you have, started cracking...

    Water proof detector recommendations?

I have been using the Minelab XTerra pro for water hunting in lakes and rivers the past couple of years…. No issues yet and it has paid for itself a couple times over already! It does well on land too in my opinion. The XTerra Elite is another good choice along with a few others in the price...

    Got milk?

I’m thinking the brass ring may have been part of a candle stick and the other item you mentioned may be related to that key plate. Just a guess though.

Here's maybe a crazy question, especially to all the old timers like me who've scanned the ground while detecting......

I do that too especially while walking across parking lots and at store checkouts. Have founds lotof coins (at least one silver coin), and even paper currency.

Silver half on top of the grass??

I found a silver dime laying on top of the ground in a yard several years ago. The house was vacant, but the yard was kept mowed….i figured someone had it in their pocket and simply lost it while doing yard work. Probably had no idea they even had a silver coin in their pocket. I also found a...

    Single frequency vs Multi frequency

Using my 800 in multi fruequency, I do not have to re ground balance as my ground changes as I would in single frequency, so to me there is an advantage. However, I think you could always run ground tracking on the 600 and not have to worry about changes in ground conditions. Detecting around...

Found this today wondering what it might be

Only thing I can think of is a lead bag seal. Never seen one with an image on it though. Looks like a piece of wire is attached to it..
