    Price of a bolt

Three bolts. If I remember correctly IH dropped there head stamp and then fasteners were made at West Pullman plant in Chicago. They also manufactured a lot of other things like magnetos, alternators, etc. The other two are John Deere and the older IH stamped bolt. Top quality. Not like the...

    Price of a bolt

I feel your pain. With agriculture as my profession and misers (grandfather + father) for mentors I have come to repurpose everything. There are A LOT of fasteners in the equipment I use. So anything and everything that becomes used up I strip it down when there is downtime. Every nut...

Using The 3 Bars On The Vortex Screen On Bi-Metallic Coins To ID Them

Thank you for this bit of valuable info. Would think that this would apply to iron in close proximity to US coinage?(i.e. an iron nail next to a wheat cent). In my application I primarily hunt early 1900’s farmsteads that have iron trash and very little aluminum, foil and other non ferrous...

Here's A List (not complete) Of All Garrett Metal Detectors Produced Since 1964

Thanks so much John for the walk down memory lane. Mr. Charles Garrett was a very busy, talented and influential individual in the fields of metal detecting, electronics, engineering, entrepreneurship, authorship and philanthropy. Irreplaceable. God rest his soul.

    New Vortex vx 9

Thank you for the first run report. It is very encouraging to say the least. Some people were disparaging Garrett for the time of release and some initial problems. We have become so “I want it and I want it now” culture. IMHO Garrett knew there would have to be some issues addressed and...

Silver Score with the Manticore, dime trifecta and more.

I know you are giving a lot of credit to the manticore. Rightfully so as it seems to be a very good detector. But reading through your description of the day you are selling yourself short. It is apparent you are a very good detectorist who has become proficient with a good machine. I would...

    Who rides Motorcycles ????

So very true. When we are young we think we won’t live long enough to experience the folly of our youth. But if God blesses us with a long life those hard early years sure sneak up on a guy.

    Who rides Motorcycles ????

Holy Smokes Longhair. You have forgotten more about bikes than I will ever know. Piling it @ 135 must have been a harrowing 9 lives experience. Even with some of the shortcomings you list it sure is a beautiful bike.

Got My First Ring For 2025 Today

Northern North Dakota(about 18 miles south of Canadian border)=frozen tundra. This winter has been brutal. That’s just one reason I enjoy all these winter posts. I can dream of warmer and better finds in the future.

    Who rides Motorcycles ????

You are busy!!! A lot of cool projects you are working on. Would love to see some pics of completion. My children are gone as well but still too busy to do some of the things on my bucket list unfortunately. However my wife likes to ride as well. Found her a 1996 Triumph Thunderbird which...

    Deus 2 - Vdi scale

This is one of the reasons I like the duel ferrous/conductive numbers of my etrac. With tones it gives a lot of info instantaneously. To the point I can tell with a lot of certainty if a target is a .22 shell, shotgun head stamp, copper rivet from horse harness, Indian vs wheat penny, etc. I...

Last hunt before the white death

Thanks for posting. I have experienced “white death” since October. Nice to see finds 3 months after my area turned to frozen tundra.

Congrats on your new addition. With your years of experience I will be VERY interested in your assessments. Especially considering your soils would be similar to mine.

    Unusual Spill

A lot of history just in that one coin spill. A US soldier returning from World War II having served in the European theater and losing it all in the dumping of a pocket. That is a snapshot in time find. Congrats on the great permission and hunt.
