You wanted it and we did it - Concentric coil...

Interesting! In this situation (nickel gives a good signal at 25), what typically happens if you check it with the Alt Disc set at, say, 32? Does it low-tone or just not sound off at all? -Ken

I am thinking of getting a deeptech detector

I'd also recommend the Vista X as a great all-around machine. The full discrimination ranges means you can use it to cherry-pick for silver coins if you like, but it's also a superb relic hunter. Since I obtained an X, my other detectors have mostly been gathering dust. I would recommend...

    Hindrance and help

Greatest hindrance was (is?) excessive cherry-picking. For example, only digging the signals that are likely to be silver coins. Greatest help was being willing to dig anything that's more conductive than iron. That does result in more trash, but also more treasure. -Ken

    Great start for the year...

I sold my Tejon soon after getting a Vista X. I decided there were probably no situations in which the Tejon would do better than the X. I did keep some of my other Tesoros because they're so much fun to use and because I do enjoy using a concentric coil sometimes. -Ken

Super six coil for Vista X

    Good to know. Thanks! -Ken

Super six coil for Vista X

Is the Super Six in stock for the Vista X? I just looked at the DeepTech website, but the X isn't listed as one of the models the that Super Six is available for. In particular, I'd need the 5-pin model since I have the older version of the X. Thanks. -Ken

What's your set up for hunting trashy area's

Some great tips in this thread. Only thing I can think to add is to try the area with both DD and concentric coils. Each coil type has its strengths and weaknesses, so one may find stuff that the other misses, and vice-versa. -Ken

Just Curious....who's been lucky enough to ever find a US gold coin??

I was lucky enough to find a 1911 $2.50 coin in a park in Montana. I was using a Bounty Hunter Big Bud Pro (this was years ago), and the coin read up exactly as a pull-tab. I was hunting under a tree where the ground was really easy to dig, so I decided to investigate. If the digging had...

The X, is it for me?

I didn't buy my X primarily for depth, but rather for its lightening fast recovery speed. Targets generally aren't too deep around these parts due to the semi-arid climate and the ground being frozen for 4-5 months a year. Coins that must have been lost a hundred years ago are still within 6"...

    Bonehead mistakes...........

Ouch! That reminds me of my own boneheaded mistake with an SLQ. Years ago, while vacationing in Nevada, I found one with my detector. It was in pretty poor shape and I don't remember the date. For some reason I didn't have a finds pouch and so put it in my pocket. Later that day, we went to...

    Bonehead mistakes...........

I was doing some air tests indoors with the sensitivity cranked down due to all the EMI. Forgot to dial it back up during my next hunt and wondered why I wasn't finding much. -Ken

    PLEASE HELP!!

Bobby, check out the "Beep & Dig Detecting" forum on this site -- it's mostly about Tesoro detectors. Someone there posted a link to a web archive of the manuals: https://web.archive.org/web/20190415114150/http://www.tesoro.com/info/manuals/older/ There were several models with "Bandido" in...

    Gone!

LOL. This forum can be pretty quiet sometimes. I hope to get out this weekend with the Vista X. Will post here if I find anything interesting. -Ken

    Unusual Find with Vista X

Thanks, Dancer. I hear ya about the discrimination. When I'm hunting a park or anywhere else that requires careful plugging, I set the primary disc to at least 30. And I find it hard not to set the Alt disc a lot higher and cherry-pick with that :-) This site is nice, though, in that it's...

    Unusual Find with Vista X

I haven't had much time for detecting this year, and only have about 15 hours on the Vista X. But the more I use it, the more I want to use it... Recently, four houses from the early 20th century near me were torn down to make room for a condo development. At least one detectorist hunted them...

Running the Vista X Discrimination at the Pre-Set

Great finds, Richard! It's surprising that high conductors like those copper items didn't give good signals with the disc set to 30. Do you think it's because they were deep, or does the machine just recover faster from nearby trash if the disc is at 20? -Ken

    Six to eight inch Dimes

Wow, that's great advice, Richard! Like Dancer, I generally have my primary disc set around 30. I'll try dropping it to the preset at some sites I've hunted heavily and see what happens. I did notice that the preset disc level seems more prone to hit on nail-sized iron, at least in one...
