My 4 year old son's first hunt and he gets an 1823 Matron LC!!

Took my son Carmine to a park to try out his first detector and his second coin found was a holed 1823 Matron head large cent. He was so excited he ran around yelling "YES!" I'm so proud of my lil guy and so happy he's finally old enough to go hunting with me! Metal detecting just got better...

    Really strange coin

This find is not mine, but a fellow detectorists. It is really unusual. The back looks like it says IEVAN THE AWFUL in a form of old English. That's what I make out anyway. Was hoping someone could shed some more light on this coin. Thanks!

    Working 1800s brass padlock

Found a cool 1800s era padlock at an old site. Still works as good as the day it was dropped there.

    Neutral soil

Over the last two years I've had several forum members comment on how neutral the soil I hunt must be. That has never been more evident than today when I pulled an iron square nail that looked like it was dropped yesterday, a gold plated button that still had gold shining and a 204yr old button...

Second- and different style- War of 1812 Rifleman button

Today I finally got out, haven't gone hunting almost all summer. Went to a previously hunted colonial cellar hole and dug this sweet war of 1812 rifleman button. This is the second rifleman button I've found from that war. The first had the eagle with the shield and script R. If anyone has...

Colonial? Medieval? Diamonds? Pendant found and need help

Today I went to a baseball field at a school that old maps from 1894 showed had houses on it. As soon as I got to the spot where the houses were I found the Minnie-ball. Then I pulled the ox knob. Those who hunt in the northeast US know what that is. Then, I pulled this...

1863 French 10 Centimes. Thought it was a large cent!

Pulled this gorgeous bronze 10 centimes out today. Thought I had another draped bust LC from the thickness. But I was shocked when I saw the bust of Napoleon III. really neat find. My first French coin

Here's more to back up the safaris ability:

This morning I was hunting a very iron-ridden cellar hole area of an old early 1800s farmhouse. And amongst the trash signals I got a faint copper tone (solid 35). I dug down and found 3 square nails. But underneath those nails was the oldest coin I've ever found. An 1805 draped bust large...

    After 158 years....still incredible detail

This flying eagle is as good if not better than my previous one found last October. I'm really excited about this find. It's such a beautiful coin design.

No question the safari kills it!

It was a day of 2nd'S for me. Got my second 1858 flying eagle penny, and my second braided hair large cent, this one an 1837 date. Then I pulled my first gold of the year, and my first "true gold". Not a modern ring lost at a park, or a necklace, but a colonial era gold locket. Beautifully...

Colonial GOLD and second flying eagle penny!

Went to a few colonial cellar holes that I've hunted pretty good in the past. I was looking to pass the time more than anything so I was going slow and digging every signal, good or bad. All I can say is wow did that pay off. I found my second 1858 flying eagle penny! In great shape with tons of...

    Quick snow hunt

Got out for a bit today although it snowed overnight. Went to a recently discovered cellar hole that has produced silver last weekend. Didn't find a ton but I found a 1921 Canadian penny. Not as old as the 1818 silver spoon found there so i was a bit dissapointed. But I'll take it. It's...

Big silver at new cellar hole

Found a new cellar hole today from the early 1800s. First target out was this nice silver spoon. I'm a rookie when it comes to reading silver hallmarks and stuff so any help would be appreciated. All I know is it has a makers stamp of GF or maybe GE. Three castles, a duty mark of King George...

    Mystery bottle

I need some help identifying the middle bottle in the photo. I cannot find anything online about it as I can with most. It is from a site that dates from 1850-1915 based on the range of artifact I have found. On the bottom of the bottle is embossed "No.15 Biplane Applied For" and Patent. Any...

If you only detect cellar holes, you only scratch the surface

Hey everyone. Wanted to share my video of the pocket watches and other finds made yesterday. I wanted to show everyone how much more might be under the surface at a cellar hole site. And there was so much metal I never could have detected it. Hope you enjoy and if it helps great...

Two pocket watches guts and all

Today I went back to the 1800s homesite I've been detecting. I found many items, 11 glass bottles, another bone toothbrush, and incredibly 2 silver pocket watches completely intact, on one the hand still points to 2:00. Only thing missing is the glass from the faces. And the hands on one. But...
