14K GOLD 'BOAT ANCHOR' RING!!!!

Goldstrike

Well-known member
[size=large]Detected this ring yesterday from a beach and was surprised at how big and heavy it was!!!:yikes: The guy who wore it must have had really fat fingers!!::clapping::

[size=large]I switch between my Safari for the dry sand A.M. sens 16, (any higher and you get falsing) high trash (those were the settings)....and my P.I Sea Hunter (submersible) for the wet sand and ocean. It's nice to see gold prices on the rise again so it will 'swell my wallet'!!!:clapping:

Nice find Goldstrike. It is great to have fat fingered people out there, except if they are your Dr.!!!
Keep swinging!
Bunker

Thanks guy's for your comments!! Kschae4 The TID read a solid 18 and the cursor was slightly to the left of the depth indicator. It is strange but I have got gold rings with a reading in the low 30's:confused: like you indicated so I ALWAYS dig just about everything...just in case because I don't want to pass anything up. Sometimes you can have a piece of jewellry (gold) /watch with combination metals that will give you a weird reading and tone (high fluty) on a Safari and you think it's a penny or junk but never assume. If your in soft sand it's very easy to dig anyway and so what if it's a pesky soda can 3 feet down!!!...Enjoy the journey and the digging!!!!

Very funny Bunky...that would really hurt...ouch!!!

Thanks for the feedback, as my wedding band tid reads 31, however, the graph id points towards copper id, not the gold id as the ring truly is....hmm.
Good one, Bunky. My coffee apparently hadn't kicked in when I initially read your post.

Nice find.I still hate digging them deep soda cans but it is nice to know you have a detector that will go that deep to find them.

14K Gold is approximately 58% gold with a substantial amount of copper. I found this ring last week with my Sovereign GT and when I checked it with my Safari, it reads 11-12. My wedding band, which is gold, reads a solid 19. Any thoughts?

Both 14K rings (with diamonds but I don't thing they matter as far as TID) The ring on the right comes up 22 the one on the left 17:stars: I still don't have a good answer as to gold readouts. They can come registering different numbers and different tones both high and low!! and because I detect mostly on beaches, I usually dig virtually everything unless I get tired of digging pennies at 35 but also register thru 38!! depending on salt deposits etc;. I know the copper content has a part in the readout and tones but I cannot be definitive on this.
I do know that gold targets have a slightly different tone which can be picked out the more you metal detect.

I have resorted to trying to learn the ferrous tones...they tend to sound better to me. While beach hunting last week, I hit several pennies that were in the teens and low thirties. Thought I did good to discriminate them out but these were extremely corroded. I was very impressed with the safari at the beach, especially in the water. The threshold was very steady. I did use my GT predominantly and was simply blown away with its performance. Getting ready to do some land hunting after I take care of the honey-do list...
