15x12 SEF - Killer coil - YouTUBE tests.

David turned me on to these two clips of the 15x12 SEF coil in action.

What really impressed besides the 20" find was the 3-5 inch finds that have been pounded over by other coils and they never picked it up! He never mentions the weight though which I know is a problem. You'll definitely need a bungee harness with this one if you want to swing for hours on end.

I watched those vids also....I like those type vids....in winter time even better...it makes the frozen ground times a little easier. I think you should take all into consideration though. To many variables on the plate to really treat it as true.

If they had filmed another identical detector with other coils side by side it would prove it more...we all know at any given day we can find things we have missed over and over with the same coils.....I don't think we need to go into it all but it is not fair to all other coils and manufactures...so we as an educated group in detecting should relize its just promotion film....and not 20/20 doing an honest comparison like myth buster could. I would love to do that some day if I can get some volunteers to help me...I think that would be fun and very educational.....we would just need a perfect place with iron, trash, and also deepies....not necessary all in the same place at once, but either a combo or one or the other....I don't believe everything I read or watch, but when filmed and have multiple wittnesses and documented, it would help me to be a believer....I know the SEF coils are great and so are
the SE pro 11" coils and at times the other coils will be a hero at some instances....so I am bored and would love to do this at some point in time.

I even took off my 11" SE pro coil today just to use old trusty lucky # 7 1/2"....cause it has performed for me many times....not saying nothing can touch it...just saying I have good luck with it....so you see this is just a post...read what you want and do what is best for you....and do some educated tests yourself....

Happy Hunting.......Signed" Producer of the next best coils production of field Tests"..........:smoke:

You are right. The ideal way to test these is to use various coils on the same target.

Hey Guys,

Sorry I'm just now seeing this. Been away for a family emergency.

Both of you are correct in saying that other machines are needed for testing, etc. But that wasn't the sole purpose of my tests here. I simply wanted to show the beginner to average metal detectorist what kind of targets that are left behind either by a depth issue or by a masking issue. In this case, we have been hitting this location, which is our front yard in Tennessee, for almost 3 years now. It has produced tons of relics by using White's Machines. I knew there had to be a better way of finding the 'hidden' items.

The stock 950 is a great all around coil. But, when it comes to targets being close together, it is a challenge for the coil to separate a good button from a bad iron nail. Especially below 5 inches.

The 6x10 coil is a great separating coil, but it lacks in depth, especially in low-mineralized soil.

The Super 12 is similar to the 950 in that it is very tough to separate targets.

Enter the SEF Coil. Now, when I attached this coil to my MXT, I thought right away that the weight is a little more than either of those 3 aforementioned coils. Regardless, I am in my mid 20s and was able to swing 8 hours each day for 2 weekends.

The first performance advantage of the SEF that I noticed is the ability to separate targets. The recovery speed seems a little quicker than the 6x10 allowing it to pick up targets close together. Another advantage is that it reaches down where other coils that I have mentioned haven't been yet.

I am planning to do more tests with this coil in the future and will see about including other machines with other coils as a side by side comparison. But for the test that was filmed above, it serves it purpose to showing White's users that there are other coils choices than the White's manufactured coils that can and do work better in most cases.

I see the point in making comparisions but I do believe what you posted in youtube, you strike me as an honest, no nonsense person who loves the sport and I know you loved that large cent, your hands were quivering! Did you sleep that night?

What will be saying though in months ahead if you are using that coil day in and day out. Repetition is a slow erosive process. The Whites are better balanced than the Minelabs so you would not be swinging that 15x12 8 hours a day. Then again I know the SEF would throw that balance off to a degree too. That would grind me down and I have no shoulder problems, I am 5'9" and I weigh 227 lbs and I am 46 going on 47 years old and I lift and do cardio 5 days a week at Gold's Gym. It's all muscle. I am in outstanding shape for a guy my age and I look like I am in my low 30's. ANy imbalance in the balance of machine when coupled with repetitive movement over many hours will grind any one down. I know the White's are well balanced because I met up with a guy who was swinging a WHite's and I asked to hold it cause I know they are light and balanced well. He had a stock 950 on. I said,Here hold mine (SE) and he said man, that's heavy and he was a big guy, actually he was probably about the same weight as you but in all fairness he wasn't in a good shape as you and he was at least twice your age (early 50's)

That has been attested to and I do not doubt you on that statement

In my opinion any WHite's user or anyone with any other brand who doesn't acquire this coil for their arsenal is short changing himself big time!

Keep up the good work Ian :beers:

There is no doubt in my mind ANY of the SEF coils are an improvement to the coil world. What they did differently in the windings is like having a small coil inside a big coil. So now you have great seperation, improved stability and what seems to be improved depth.

But if you had an identical detector set up the same but with a comparible coil and both checked it and only one could see it...then it would make peoples eyes open up. Just a little more convincing to me.

I enjoyed the vids and am looking forward to more....Thanks for writting in on this.

I guess I need to choose better words. I'm really loving mine and can't wait until the farm fields get clear off here!

Same Here! In my case, I'm waiting on winter to get this thing in the deep weeds.

I wish they had a SEF Special Edition model with a built-in weedeater!

LOL! A weedwacker option on the coil would be awesome! Maybe switch to a blade for corn stalks!
