Got out for the first time this year. Snow is gone. Hit a pounded CW camp. Picked up a 1854 half dime. Then tried a local park. Hit a 1939 merc. and a small 10k ring. Not a lot, but it was nice finally getting out. Sorry for the bad picture. Anybody recommend a cheap camera for takeing good closeups. Thanks, Mark

First see if your camera has a macro feature. And with taking a picture when the camera is set on AUTO, brighter light improves the "depth of field" so more of the picture is in focus. If you can see and set your cameras F number the high numbers are best. That's why you need more light because the aperture is smaller. I also use a two second delay when i take close ups so my hands can relax after I have pressed the shutter button. best of luck

I have an hp photosmart 5.0 mega pixel.
The photos of the eyepiece were taken with it,in macro, the v nickel was taken using the bigger lens only.
The buffalo nickel was taken with both lenses, the jewelers eyepiece has two lenses.
Makes a big difference, and i only gave 10.00 for it.

Sweet finds, Mark. I still have at least six inches of snow on the ground. I'm hoping the deep snow has insulated the ground from freezing.

keep on diggin'

Very nice finds! Keep up the good work. Maybe soon I'll be able to get some swing time in spots that are unfrozen here in Colorado.

WTG Mark!! Great way to start the year. I am looking to get out next week for the first time and hopefully we can meet up sometime.

Good finds Mark, Did you have to use a jack hammer to get them out?

The ground isnt frozen down here. We were lucky enough to get a layer of snow on the ground before the cold weather hit. Helped to keep the ground from freezeing.

Your in Missouri too aren't you? I am in Southeast, Mo. Stoddard County. I tried a couple times this week and it was frozen hard as a rock but we only had about an inch of snow that didn't last long and the single digit temps for a few days froze it up.
