2nd Field Hunt

Late this afternoon I got the green light to hunt a field 2 miles from my mobile home. I was running in TTF and learning the different sounds. I was able to pull a no date wheatie and a 1881 Indian Head Penny in the 2 hours I was able to hunt. Sorry there's no pics. I had to get a new computer a little over 2 weeks ago and I don't have a clue how to load pics using Windows 8. Honestly I don't know which one is harder to learn the Windows 8 or the TTF. I'm really leaning towards the Windows 8 that's for sure.
 
Congrats on the coins. Sounds like a good hunt. In TTF there are only two tones. If its a low tone it's most likely iron. If its a high tone you have to check the VDI numbers. Also check the square cursor that is on the screen. If it goes to the bottom of the screen that signifies iron. The part that I had the most trouble with in the beginning was the high tone iron wrap around. If its a high tone iron signal there will usually be a low tone along with the high tone and the high tone will not be consistent from different angles. If it's iron it also usually will not pinpoint in the same spot your coil says it's at. In fields I usually dig most consistent high tones. Remember that the soil has been disturbed and a lot of the coins are on edge or not laying entirely flat giving odd VDI numbers. Also small coins like nickel three cent pieces will show up as pull tabs or aluminum.

Daryl, After reading your post, this is my brain: :blink: And honestly, I was going to get that E-trac out this weekend and play around with it. Boy, I'm afraid I'll be very confused. :wacko:
 
I have TTF set up in your relic program Nancy. Get it out and play with it, but go slow! Good job on the coins Robbie!

Nancy, don't let it fluster you, TTF is not hard to learn. TTF is best used in field hunting or areas that have a lot of iron and few good signals, otherwise the high tones will overwhelm your ears. The advantage of TTF is that it can bring out the occasional coin signal that is masked by iron and it also can slightly increase the depth your detector can pick up a signal at. I believe that you also get a better response time with the open screen. Just remember that with the E-Trac slow swings are best.
