3 weeks w/SE

Magicman

Member
Well I have had my SE for 3 weeks and as of now I have found 221 coins, 1 Chucky Cheese 1995 token, 4 keys, 6 Bullets (one still live) and some jewelry. Of the coins I had 1-silver quarter, 3 mercs and 1 Rosy. Also the US flash I am not sure about. I had them in the Army and they weren't concaved and have a hollow area in the back like the one in the picture. I am headed to St Augustine this weekend with the family to take my mom metal detecting for Mother's Day (she thought that was a great idea, along with my dad. (wife and daughter will sleep in)

Gotta say I really like the SE, finding more then I did with another detector.

Get more Experience on that Se and you will really start digging some DEEP Silver and Cool Stuff. This is why the Explorer Forum has great finds posted all the time, they go DEEP! Continued Success, Good Luck and HH.

Added a ring today- looks to be 18k

Okay, Magicman, fess up! I've had my SE since February and haven't found near that much stuff. And, you know that, back in 1978, I quit magic. So, you've got to be pulling all that stuff out of your hat - aren't you? Hey, do you have an extra hat? I threw my darn hat away!

Well I have time on my side. I retired from the Army and going to school two nights a week. I get up at 6:00 am and detect until about noon, although this morning I spent only two hours (I was tired)

I have plenty of hats, I assist at a magic shop that is open on weekends. Tomorrow I am hitting the library to do some more research, maps, maps, maps... I sent out four letters today to ask permission to search old properties. I am looking up the old houses of the area. Oh, I forgot I am a real estate agent. I am looking into some stuff to search even deeper (also wetter- water detecting) My wife is from the Philippines and has all kinds of stories, plus did research and some of the stuff are facts.

Just trying to figure out what I what to do when I grow up.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. St Augustine Florida is a Historical City. I don't think you can metal detect in the Historical city limits. You might want to check first. I could be wrong but I don't think so. I was just there 2 weeks ago. Take your mom for a carriage ride from the water front past the old fort and to Flagler church. It costs $60 during the day for the ride, and $80 at night. The best thing Peggy My fianc

are really catching on to the SE:clapping:
You've found lots of coins in a very short time. Your "Chucky Cheese" token find made me chuckle as it brought back a memory I will never forget. Just last year I found my first large cent. When it came out of the ground I thought it was a "chucky cheese" token...seriously...my buddy and I didn't even know what itwas until we got it home and rinsed it off and rubbed on it. It hit like a shallow clad dime on the SE and I walked over it but passed on it many times that day. Towards the end of the hunt...I got bored from lack of signals so I went back to dig up the "clad dime". It was only 4" or 5" deep if I remember correctly...but it was no clad dime. I thought for sure it was just a pizza token. Boy was I wrong:thumbup:
Anyway...keep up the great finds...and keep us posted.

Thanks Tom.... The beaches are go to go, as long as you don't disrupt the sand dunes. On Anastasia State Park Beach "Use of metal detectors, magnetometers or other metal detecting devices is prohibited on all state park lands, including sovereign submerged lands under lease by state parks, except for the following:
(1)
Coastal parks, in a zone between the waterline and toe of the dune, as determined by the Park Manager. Just no water detecting on the State Park.

St Augustine Beach City even has metal detectors for rent, from Big Bill's shop. I am originally from Orange Park Fl and was at St Augustine every weekend when I was in high school. Plus every time I get back to Florida we visit St Augustine. I remember camping one time, 1978, we found a shaft of an anchor protruding from the ground on the beach, however the tide was coming in and we could not get to it in time and when the tide went back down, anchor was gone. Got long winded there, anyway.......

Thanks.

Tom,

I found that the St Augustine beach does not prohibt metal detecting. St Augustine does, however you can obtain written permission:

Sec. 6-7. Excavations on public property.
No individual shall be allowed to use a probe, metal detector or any other device to search or excavate for artifacts on public property, nor can any individual remove artifacts from public property without the written permission of the city.

Sec. 6-9. Ownership of artifacts.
(a) All artifacts uncovered, recovered or discovered during the course of any testing, salvage archaeology or monitoring, as provided herein, on private property shall belong to the owner of the property upon which such artifacts are found. Likewise, artifacts uncovered, recovered or discovered during testing, salvage archaeology or monitoring on property belonging to the city shall belong to the city. However, the city shall retain possession of artifacts from private property for a period of up to two (2) years to allow for their proper analysis, cataloging, recording, and conservation, with written permission of the owner. Furthermore, the city shall attempt to obtain written permission from property owners to secure permanent ownership of the artifacts; otherwise, all retained artifacts are then to be returned to the property owner as soon as such analysis, cataloging, recording, and conservation is completed. Individuals and property owners are strongly urged to donate archaeological artifacts to the city for long-term storage, care, protection and preservation.

SO like you I thought that St Augustine was offlimits.... But I am sure that George Street area would be off limits or you would not gain permission... I will check into it further, my dad knows some folks in that area.

I know this is about a 1 month old post, but I'm heading to St. Augustine this Saturday. I wanted to make sure that it was ok to detect on the beach.. We usually go to vilano beach while we are there... Can someone confirm that it is ok to detect on the beach? Thanks!

YES... But if you are on the State park side you can only detect the beach, not the water. Plus stay off the dunes.

Magicman, that is magic!
