47 CW Era Bullets in One Hunt

Sounds too good to be true, but I love it when a plan comes together. I decided to use my CTX with the 17" coil Relic hunting for the first time in an area that we had pretty well cleaned out down to about 9" deep with other machines. Have had good luck lately recovering deep coins in town with the 17" coil so I figured deep or iron masked Relics should be recoverable.

25-30 mph winds all day made swinging a big coil rough in an open field, but thankfully the driving rain stopped after about the first hour, just like Steve (my favorite Meteorologist hunting buddy) said it would. We give him a hard time about the weather sometimes, but I think he knows you gotta take some crap to be one of the gang. Lord knows I have. ;)

Anyway, by our lunch break I only had 4 bullets, but I knew the more productive area for bullets would be there when we came back. Brad and I bailed out and hunted one spot while Dave and Steve drove off to hunt another. In the next four hours, I dug, and dug, and dug, bullet after bullet mostly from 9"-12" deep. Also found a nice Eagle Button with good detail remaining. Can

Outstanding group of recoveries. As you said, that is a lot of digging in a four hour timeframe. In a couple days, that soreness will go away. But you'll remember that hunt for a lifetime. HH Randy

Simply outstanding! What State? I hunt a lot in MS and would just about die for a day like that! Thanks for posting!

Congratulations on your CW finds. I do not have the large coil but 11 inch deep targets are not uncommon at all. You need to really take your time and do not pass 12-2s and 12-3s. Gold 1 dollar coins come in at those numbers and are not that rare at some of the sites. Thanks for posting. HH :minelab:

Thanks, I can't tell you what state these camps are in because I might get banned from coming back. I've hunted a few times in MS too and enjoyed it, but that's not where I found these bullets. I'll give you a clue though...the state's name starts with a K, or M, or A, or L, or T. That's the best I can do.

Thanks, and you are absolutely right my friend. I actually bought a $1 gold coin last week for testing and I pretty much dug everything above 12-06 yesterday.

Ha Ha I understand! Again, great finds

Wow that's one heck of a hunt! Nice variety too. I really like those three ringtail sharps, especially the two Gomez and Mills. You'll have to pound that site some more.

What a haul and some hard to find specimens. Could you post some closeups of the two - two groove bullets in the second photo, second row on the right. Also, what cavity shape on those two?

Thanks in advance,
TomH

Thanks for your interest Tom! Until now, I thought they were both the same bullet. After taking these pics, I see a distinct difference. They both have a solid completely flat bottom, but the grooves, or rings, are different.

Forgot to add that the bullet on the left weighs 20 grams.
The one on the right weighs 21 grams.
