6 hour hunt yields lots of coins...goodies and some SILVER.

[attachment 62771 coins6.jpg]What a great evening detecting with the SE. We went to the site of an old school and the monument said 1904 to 1971. It was one of the better hunts I have had in a while and I don't remember the last time I found this many wheaties and 3 silver coins in one hunt! It was also very meaningful as I was trying to show my son Kendrick that there's more to life than skateboarding and head bangin' music!!
I let him use my XL PRO with the sunray probe and he did well. I have been telling him I would post his first "wheatie" find on the forum...so here they are. He found TWO in one hole 6" deep so that made it that much more fun.
He also found a very nice ring that just about made my heart stop..until I could see it wasn't real gold and diamonds...but it sure was a thrill for him. I told him "a ring's a ring" and is always a keeper.
I don't know if we can pry him away from the skateboard again...but at least he went with us this time and found some goodies.
My lady found a neat old charm that I'm sure had a silver dime or other coin in it an one time...but no longer. A dime fit perfectly in the center at home so I bet it did hold a coin. She also found some clad and a neat old wedding band. Although it isn't gold...again...a ring's a ring and I didn't find one! They BOTH skunked me there!
I found 14 wheaties (two 1919's) ...two mercs... a 1914 Barber dime 9" deep..... a completely worn and worthless shield nickel (still neat to find)...a pocket knife 10" deep...and a turning combination part of one of the old school lockers at over a foot deep. Just an overall nice 6 hours of detecting!
Happy hunting to everyone.

Congrats on your kids recoveries as well. If you get him to go with you a little more often, then maybe you will spark more interest into him and he will want to tag along more often. It would probably have to be a site with Silver and big ones for him to really get interested in this hobby or maybe if he would have found a Gold Ring, then it would get his curiosity going. Nice bunch of finds though. Good to see that you found a Shield Nickel. Those are hard to find here. What was the year and mint mark on your Barber Dime? Hope there is more waiting for you at that site. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you and your family the next time out.

we can keep Kendrick's interest going. I'm hoping he continues to find stuff. He really picked up the machine well.
Happy Hunting

don't use the stock coil much at all anymore. I will probably go back and forth between the 12.5 Excelerator and the 10 x 14 Excelerator coils from now on. I just feel they are much more stable and get nice depth on my SE. I am going to try a smaller coil on sites after pounding them with the two coils stated in hopes of pulling a few more keepers right out of the trash.

Those are great finds Bryce! How is the weight of the 12.5 compared to the 10x14? I bought the 10x14 and should have listened to you about the weight. It's hard on my bad shoulder.

the 12.5 Excelerator feels a little lighter to me. It may not be but to me it does feel that way. I am used to swingin' heavier coils though so it is just my personal opinion. It is a very solid and well made coil as is the 10 x 14.
