8" minelab coil?

Goes4ever

New member
ok I got a chance to but a ML 8" coil and lower shaft, coil is new, shaft used. I would like to hear from those who have one and have used one. Is it lighter than the pro coil, or heavier?

would you pick the 6 x 8 butterfly coil over the 8" ML coil, if so, please tell me why. I need to decide tonight whether to buy this from a member here who gave me the chance before he posts it, or should I hold out for the 6 x 8?

Any opinions or experiences you can share is much appreciated!

The 8 inch minelab coil is actually like 7-1/4 inches.
I dont know what the price is you are looking at on the 8 inch.
with the 8 inch coil being close to the same price,i would go with the 6x8.
If the 8 inch is a great buy,yes it is a good coil too.

That's about the going rate on the coil + shaft.... I've never used the 6x8 but do have an 8" minelab and like it.... after swinging the pro coil it seems very light to swing.... :)

Then again when I put on the 5" sunray its almost like nothing is there....

Sorry I can't help with the comparison....

I don't think you would be disappointed in the minelab coil at all that is a very good price.
especially with lower rod.
another drawback would be if you had to wait four to six weeks from kellyco.

Somebody placed a 6x8 in the classifieds for 140.00

The Minelab 8" coil is heavy, does not attach at the midpoint of the coil, so it flops under unless you have a loop stabilizer.

I do think that any smaller coil can at times be an advantage compared to the pro coil. Often times on real good sites I will go over it with both coils. :)

$140 is a good price for this new used coil. If Kelly Co has any they are $149.95 + $9.95 for shipping so you save $20.
saving $20 for a coil that is used is not a good deal to me, most items have non transferable warranties, so why would I pay $140 when I can get one brand new with warranty for $149+10 to ship.......that is not a deal

I am sorry, used is used.

If you want to get an 8'' coil I would get the sunray x-8. I got one last year and use it more than the pro coil! First off it is lighter than the minelab 8'' coil,And it is a full 8'' where the minelab is 7.25''. And it is almost as deep as the pro coil with better separation. It is even lighter than the 6x8 sef. I love mine and due to a bad shoulder use it most of the time.

The Minelab 8 is what I use in trash it works very well it absolutely does not need a support at all it will not flop. That is a very good price.Pin point is very good with that coil. Can't say much more I don't know anything about the other coils.

I agree. The 8" Sun Ray is a whole lot better than the Minelab 8" (71/2") coil. I had the Minelab coil years ago with my first Explorer II and sold it pretty quick. About the only two coils I use now a days with my E-Trac is the Pro and Sun Ray 8".

I sell the Minelab 8" coil with shaft for $179.95 shipped and the Sun Ray 8" for $189.95 shipped but both are back ordered now.

Terry,

I've been waiting on my 8" ML coil from Kellyco since the middle of this last March. Still haven't heard anything from them. I did call them and Minelab to make sure all the warranty info was in and the paper work was right. I used my coupons to order the coil and a few odds-n-ends. There are a few places I think it would be an advantage.
