A mixed bag but I am learning

I finally got to get out for my fifth hunt with the E-Trac this weekend. Started hunting a new site. The old house was lived in until a couple of years ago but dates back to the early 1900's, which is old for my area. Started out in Coin mode using Andy's coin pattern. There was constant nulling, I mean all the time. I would lift the coil up in the air just to hear the threshold and make sure it was working. I was digging most everything. The iron Billy Goat was deep about 13", I have never seen anything like that. I found some zinc pennys at 3 to 4 inches and I knew the old stuff would be deep. After hunting for a couple of hours I switched to TTF and had to keep reminding myself to slow down and investigate every high tic. Once I made myself slow down, I started to pull smaller items out that were deeper. The 2 brass rings were at about 10" and sure did sound like coins. Then I found the only older coin for the day it was a 1940 wheat penny at about 7". The bottle cap says Continental Distilling Corp. By the time I made myself slow down it was getting dark and time to go. I know there is deep silver there and will go back. The Corbin lock is solid brass and weighs a ton. It was at about 8" and almost blew my ears off. I know now what you guys have told me, it takes hours in the field and you have to slow down, I am having trouble with the slow down part. Thanks for all the tips you guys give on this forum. I love the E-Trac. Thanks for looking -- Randy

Very nice and unique finds Randy! Thanks for sharing the story and the picture with us! Best of luck on your next hunt!

Nice Finds! Congratulations!

Nice finds there Randy. Just keep at it and keep digging those signals. Before you know it you will really know what your detector is telling you.

Nice finds Randy, I like the metal billy goat, it's cool. When you can you should get a small coil, for the really trashy spots. I'm partial to the 6" EQ2 coil, great seperation and good depth. Thanks for the story and the picture. Keep up the learning and hunting, and keep us posted. Ken-ks.

Great job Randy !

Seems to me every time you go out - you learn a little.
I feel like I went through major learning curve jumps at around 100 hrs., 300 and again at around 500 hrs.
I've got about 800 hours in the field with my ET now and I'm starting to get really tuned into it - its like magic !

An important thing I've learned is to not just look for perfect ( by the chart ) target ID numbers all the time - if your at an older site - if the numbers are close - just dig it !
Found a lot of nice coins and relics hunting this way !

Good luck this season ! ---- Mark

PS - And if you don't already have one - get a small coil for the junky sites - like a Sunray X-5 or a 6" Excellerator coil - I just got a 6" Excellerator coil a few weeks ago - WOW - I wish I got one of these little coils a year ago. Found nice coins and relics at just about every junk site that I hunted last year with the stock coil - when I went back this year with the little Excellerator coil !

.....hope that gun isn't real Randy!!!!
