Advice for a New Safari owner

Hey Everyone,

I've had my Safari about two weeks now and I'm pretty impressed, since the last metal detecter I owned was 25 years ago. I've order Andy's book but I have not received it yet. My question is, My Safari has been running pretty stable but today it sounded like a full orchestra in my headphones at the same location I've been hunting and the same settings. Any tips?

Make sure when you noise cancel there is nothing under the coil. Check under your coil cover. Go to manual sensitivity and try around 15 or 16 If EMI is that bad you can change locations or try a smaller coil. If you are finding good targets deal with it. We all experience this problem at times. Good luck. HH

There are BAD areas within a good area, so you may have been to that place before but not that spot. Some spots are crazy...just move away to another section. Yes make sure coil is clean and again make sure you have no metal in your boots!!!!

Try notching out the TID #40, I have to do that with my Quattro since most places I hunt is littered with iron.

One other guy along with myself have found a small "stack" of quarters and misc. other coins which read a lock solid 40. Also found a larger matchbox type of car and a knife which read a solid 40. Will admit almost all 40 readings are either iron or trash, but if it screams back at you (because of being shallow), it pays to investigate!

Hello, I have not tried notching out TID #40 and try pick up a small stack of quarters or a large matchbox car with my Quattro, but I think I will try. Have you tried? What kind of other coins lock on 40 for you? What kind of knife did you find? I know one thing for me I cannot use my Quattro were I hunt if I don't have the TID #40 notched out because it is too unstable, way too much iron.

I acted on a suggestion posted in another thread and performed a cross-save from Coin/Jewelry to all metal. In terms of hunting an iron-infested area, the performance increased immensely. In addition, by eliminating the icons, the machine seemed to increase the recovery time. By doing this(not a universal fix by any means), I landed my first silver with the Safari, a 43 Mercury surrounded by trash.
