After the rain....

Man I love hunting right after a couple inches of rain! So when it stopped raining here last evening, I headed over to the old park here in town. I used the 6 X 8 Butterfly coil and gotta tell you I dug two of the deepest dimes I've ever dug. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself. Both Mercs were in the 9+ range, as measured against the handle of my Lesche. Always nice to get another Barber out of this area. But it appears a lawn mower got to the Rosey before it went underground. Dug a few screwcaps, several pulltabs and a couple bent nails. But that sweet sound of silver makes it all worth while. Isn't it funny how a little rain changes everything? That is a good day wet or dry. Makes it exciting to detect again.

Very nice,gotta love silver.
Thanks for sharing.

Nice finds!! Did the dimes all ring in at the same number? I had memorial pennies coming in at 37-38 this morning. Normally they are 34. Weird.
Keep em coming!!'

Nice digs Randy!----I always seem to have better success after a little rain to, when the ground gets moistened up some (as long as it doesn't get too soaked).-------Del

Ya know, before this last rainy spell, I'd' been diggin memorial pennies reading as high as 46. Kept hoping for deep dimes. A couple of the silver dimes I dug last week had me thinking quarter or even a half. But now that the ground has gotten some moisture, things are more back to normal for these parts. The Barber read 13-44, the 25 Merc read 11-46, the 35 Merc was 12-46 and the Rosey was 11/12-46. The wheats and IH were all 11/12-mid 30's. Nothing higher than a 36, as I recall. HH Randy

Seems around here this year it has either been feast or famine. We had the wettest June on record. Then about 2 weeks back, summer got here and it's been ugly. I tried to carefully dig some holes last week and it was impossible to keep the ground intact. Stick in the Lesche (where you could) and clods the size of footballs would roll out. The crops are too tall to hunt the fields. Private lawns are too dry to be doing any digging. And that only leaves the local "pull tab" parks, which are usually on the bottom of my list of places to hunt. I've been driving around, scouting out some new spots I've researched, as well as some of my favorite fields. This allows me to determine which are in beans, which ones have corn, and reconfirm permission to hunt this fall. Now I'll be able to better schedule my trips and avoid any "down time" without having to jump through those hoops when the real hunting begins again! HH Randy
