All in the Sound

In the 3 weeks I've had my E Trac I can honestly say that if I have learned anything at all it is to set the audio variability at 29 , close your eyes, listen for that sweet high pitch squeal and dig it. More than likely it will be a keeper. It is all in the sound...Agreed??

I agree!
The high tones will find lots of coins, sometimes sharp, Sometimes slurred, but it is a calling sound
saying i am here dig for me.

I have a hard time distinguishing from the super high pitched squeal of silver and the high pitched squeal of iron, so needless to say, if I don't look at my meter, I dig alot of iron........NGE

I have three different coin modes I hunt in. My favorite is the stock coin mode with a couple small alterations to it. What makes it my favorite is the pitch for Quarters is extremely high, there is just no way to miss it. The dimes have a fairly high pitch but nothing like the quarter. Why this mode gives off such a high pitch on the quarters I have no idea as none of my other modes do this and all my audio settings are identical for all my modes.

For silver my favorite mode it the stock high trash mode, again with a couple small alterations. I use this mode when hunting with my Sun Ray 5.5 inch loop in really heavy trash areas. I have found on silver coins it gives off a very distinct high pitched Warble that you just can't miss and if you get a early wheat cent that reads in the Zincoln range 12-36,12-38 it will have a much higher pitch then the Zincolns making it easier to pick out those Wheaties. Also the nickles in this mode have a more distinct grunt then my other modes. On most my hunting modes if I don't have a 12-13 reading I don't mess with it as I dig just to many small ring tabs and just the tab it's self and I can't tell the difference in sound, but in the heavy trash mode the nickle has that distinct grunt if it is a nickle and it can read 12-13, 12-14-or 12-15 and if that grunt is there it will be a nickle. Found a badly worn 1876 CC dime and a near perfect 1919 Wheat cent the other night right in the middle of some of the worst trash you can imagine. The sounds these coins made make it easy to pick them out. Love that E-Trac. Rick IL

Hi,
I am an etrac learner still so please excuse my mistakes
If you only notice the high ones , won't you miss the gold ? platinum ?
I agree the tone is the first thing but the TID meter is the next check item for me
Using the meter 2nd, I tend to look for stable repeatable targets when approached from different angles

i think this is why some people use the ferrous mode in 2 or 4 tone as it separates the screen horizontally instead of vertically and so all the iron comes in as grunts and all the dig me signals come in as good high tone which means to me there is not such a query on whether to dig or not as a high tone two way signal always produces a good target it may be silver paper or a shotgun cartridge but as that is made of brass then that is something we learn to live with in my mind it is the easier way to run the etrac by SOUND ONLY happy hunting all of you
