Today I had two hours to kill so I hunted a grass field not too far from home. I was pulling modern coins out of the ground and the oldest was a 1964 memorial cent. Bummer! Suddenly lightening struck and I got a high toned signal that registered 7 or 8 inches on the depth meter. The numbers were like 11-45, 12-46. I knew it was going to be something good. The ground was bone dry and tough to dig but I finally found this baby.
1876 Seated Liberty Quarter
My first Seated Liberty quarter!!!
It's amazing how a crappy hunt can suddenly turn into a freaking awesome hunt. As you can see, the quarter was black as tar. I put it in the electrolysis tank for 5 minutes with the battery charger set on 40 amps. When it came out of the tank, the black stuff washed right off.
Here's what it looks like now.
It's pretty worn but I'll take it!
Earlier in the week I hunted for a bit and found this pin/badge:
FREMONT YARYAN CO./FREMONT, OHIO
I believe it's an electric company pin. Here it is after electrolysis:
Here's a short video.
