Anyone else's favorite small coil the 6" EQ2?

For extreme thrash, I find myself reaching for this one over and over. Anyone have a different "go to" small coil for extreme trash that has tried the 6"EQ2?

Brian----For extreme trash, my "go to" coil is the Sunray X-5.----I used to like the 6" EQ2 best, that is till I got the X-5.----I'm talking about EXTREME TRASH and having a dose of patience to go along with it (to work the trash at the time).:) --Other than that, it's kinda like painting a 747 with an artists brush but the X-5 get's the job done in fine fashion (in extreme trash).-----------Del

I also use the 6" EQ2 and love it's depth and separation abilities. Never tried the X-5, but if I can sneak it by the wife, maybe I'll buy one. MDing is kind of like fishing. You can never have to many fishing rods, just like you can never have to many coils.

The EQ is a great coil. Problem is some are really good some arent so hot. The Sun Ray X-5 is actually a 5.5 inch coil and the quality control is spot on. Never had a bad coil from them yet knock on wood. lol

I own both. Started with Sunray 5.5". It is a great coil. I bought the EQ2 6" because of the buzz. I use it exclusively now.I don't see a real difference. Both are great coils with extreme depth & great sensitivity & separation.I hunt exclusively for gold & silver jewelry. I have found my share of both the last 2 years that I have used these coils You really can't go wrong with either one. Good luck!

Thanks for the backup. Haha. I sold my x5 because I liked the eq2 so much. I may get another one to compare the two, and post my findings. I may give the x5 another shot just to see.

I went out last night with the EQ2 to a very trashy picnic area right next to an old school. The trash was so thick that for some holes, when I put my sunray probe in, it would null if I did not have the probe directly over the target. Granted, I did not dig very big plugs when I use the EQ2, but that is a lot of trash.

Ended up finding 6 wheaties with the oldest being 1927 and a lot of clad, but no silver.

The 6" eq2 is a monter coil. I don't thnk it gets the credit it deserves. The reasonable price is one of,the best aspects of the 6"eq2. I just picked up a x5 to compare the two. I will post my findings in the near future.

I own both coils too and use them on my Etrac with good success. The smaller X-5 will do marginally better in extreme trash but the difference is negligible IMHO. I usually attach the first one I happen to pick up.

All in all I'd give the overall edge to the eXcellerator because of its lower price.

I bought a 6" EQ2 - Excellerator coil about a year ago - it's my favorite coil - I use it 95% of the time - have over 1000 hrs. on it now - I've gone back to a many sites that I already hunted with the stock coil and my 10"x12" S.E.F. and made some great finds with this little coil.
From what I've seen ...the EQ2 offers great separation - it's great for getting in tight spots (and a very important feature ) no hang ups on brush stubble like open spoke coils - I love it !

Never used a 5.5" Sun Ray coil - but I know a lot of user's think their fantastic.

Glad so many of you agree. I can't wait for a head to head with the x5. I think the 6" separates great as well Ohio. If it is so trashy the 6" can't handle it, I may not have the patience to detect it anyway. I can't imagine trashier places than some I have been to with the 6" eq2.

Yep! Excellent depth and the target separation can't be matched! HH Randy

It's a great coil, I use it all the time in moderate trash. I consider it a mid size coil though, not a small coil.

I love my 6in Excell. First time i got out with it i was able to sneak out a silver.

I use the 12 X 10 SEF as my everyday coil and switch to the EQ2 when I run into trashy areas. I keep all of my coils attached to lower rods to make it easier. The funny thing is, when I switch from 12 X 10 to the 6" it takes a while for me to slow my swing down and the coil being so light, it makes you want to swing even faster.

Wow.You have never hunted a " pulltab" carpet then.......lol....NGE
