Nice post my friend...and makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

I have never had the pleasure of finding one and quite possibly never will...because I spend 95% of my time concentrating on deep silver and injun' hits.

I know it sounds insane....but I would much rather see a silver rim or a green injun' peeking up from the soil than the glint of a gold ring.

The glint of gold coin however...now that's a different ballgame.:) That would be awesome.

Those fellers' who have had the pleasure of finding a gold coin....I envy you.

Once I put the headphones on...it's my way of tuning out the world and tuning IN the peace and calm I'm truly searching for..

Maybe one of these days I'll have the pleasure of finding a gold coin...but if not...like I've said before...my pouch is already full.

Did you actually find it with the E-TRAC or were you digging the rivet and then found the coin rescanning with your pinpointer? Just curious if you remember what sort of signal you got and what you thought you were digging and what did you dig first? Which was the main target?

Thanks,

Julien

I never found one with a metal detector but when I was a kid about 49 year's ago I almost found one at the dump. The story started a couple year's earlier while digging for fish bait in my buddies field. We were both about 10 or 11 and we were going fishing down at the slough. After digging a few worms I dug this little disc that turned out to be a 1875 seated dime. I could tell that my little buddy wanted it but being kid's and "I" dug it, it was mine. Even if it was on his parent's property. I still remember him telling his Ma what I had found hoping she would intervene. But nope, I kept it and still have it. Forward a couple of years and that same buddy and I were at the local dump looking for some scrap metal to sell for pop money. Back then every town had their own dump and you could find most anything there. Well the post office was cleaning house and threw a bunch of junk away including an old safe, that used to belong to the bank. The post office was a bank back in the 1800's and early 1900's before becoming the post office and still has the limestone bank sign above the door. When I opened the door on the safe it was completely empty of anything, except a couple of mud bee nests. I just kept looking for that copper and aluminum. Along come's my little Buddy and he takes a look inside and for some reason broke one of those mud bee nests and "Darn" out falls a $1:00 gold coin. I don't recall the date but I do remember I wanted that thing pretty bad, just like he wanted that dime. Crap I should of let him have that dime. I ran into him awhile back and we talked about those two coins and had a good laugh. Yup he still has that coin.
Good hunting Gary

Brilliant stories! Thanks, Neb trac! I agree with you totally, Bryce. I run my E-Trac in 2 tone ferrous and never assume anything re numbers. My plan is just to get it out quickly without damaging it

Well............ Never a gold coin, But a 1879 Silver Dollar. After doing the happy dance I could'nt even detect untill I drove about 15 blocks to show a good friend what I had found and to invite him back to the yard to hunt for more .He declined so I called another friend and He found a Barber Quarter about 6ft from where I got the Dollar.Finds are Great but there better when there 's someone that knows how hard it is to find that stuff hunting with you. It's Not Allways about the Money as most nondetectorist's think. And it's hard work sometimes. But there is nothing I would rather be doing (Well Allmost ...He,He,He ) ;) Grumpy

Full Victoria Gold Sovereign, found on ploughed land with the Etrac and the Pro coil, ETrac was in 2 tone ferrous with sens on 30, the coin was at about 8 inches down and lying on it's side.

Found at nite on St Augustine beach in 2008. It was bright when I pulled it out and I thought it was just a piece of jewelry. When I got back to my car and once I got the salt spray off my glasses, I looked at it with a light and I almost Zheet M'Drours....

I found my first Morgan this year as well. There was someone to witness besides the camera and it was way more fun. If you asked me to help you detect...I wouldn't decline :detecting: - NebTrac

Ok - took me a while on your name....:laugh:. Thanks for sharing your story. I especially like the part about wiping the sea salt from your glasses. Suppose that was a shipwreck coin? 'bout had to be didn't it? - NebTrac

Howdy Folks,
Ive been out for a while and finally just got some time to find this thread on the forum.
I been lucky. I found a 1885 five dol gold in excellent condition at a yard that used to have a trolley car loading point next to it. While my bud and I had searched the area for about 45 minuets without any signals at all my friend pulls up an Indian head cent and shows me. I say where was that from? he points "over by that tree" Hmm, after another boring 20 min I ask if I can check under that tree. Due to sheer boredom I dug a signal that only scratched a sound out on my then Whites Eagle Spectrum (its OK I didn't have a minelab then). I dig down about 6 inches and could see the shinny gold rim just sticking out. Just the view of that rim made my heart skip and pulse jump. I pulled it out of the dark black soil and could feel the weight...that was a great moment.
Also,
A couple years ago I was hunting my favorite spot with my then Ex II. I was digging anything on the good half of the screen that day and checking around any pipes and iron. As I followed a 2 inch pipe along its path I got a signal one direction about 6 inches from the pipe. Digging down about 8 inches I pull out a 2.5 dol gold. he he I still want to do the dance when I think about that as probably 40 or so guys have been over that area I don't know how many times.

As for silver dollars...I found two in the same coin pouch with my E trac on the first day I used it...and very deep. I have also found four more in addition to those two.

You can find pics of these coins in some of my old posts if you like.
I always say Id rather be lucky than good any day. But that don't stop me from trying.

In 2000 I found an 1 1/2 ounce 18k (or better) gold medal. It was included in W & E Treasure Hunter "best finds" for 2000. It was about the size of a silver dollar but thicker and VERY heavy. I couldn't believe it was real gold and that night took it to my weekly poker game to show the guys what I had found. We passed it around but none of us thought it was real. The next day I took it to a pawn shop to have it tested. The guy who tested it told me it was at least 18K (but probably 24k) and didn't want to take a chance and ruin it by more testing. Can't remember what detector I was using, but it probably was a Sov. I've used many detectors (Whites, Fisher, Tesoro, Garrett, Minelab etc.) and in my opinion the Etrac is the best yet!
