I use the ndt's, are very comfortable for me. Sounds are very good, much better than the stock koss. Love the extra quick attach cable it comes with. I hunt some of the thickest of thick woods and have broke the koss cables atleast once a month for 4 months straight!! Its not that the koss phones are terrible cause there not, just not good for me. Love the volume control too. The only problem I have is there is a swith on one earpeice that shuts the audio off, and I bump it off alot, but not too big a deal though. HH hope this was helpful.

Thanks Joe, Is that what the limiter switch is for to shut the phones off? One of the reasons I was looking at these phones is because I like the dual volume control. I use the Garrett phones on my GTI 2500 and I love the dual controls.
From what I have heard these Detectro Pro phones are very well built with excellent sound quality and very sensitive too.

the killer b wasp's have dual volume controls - sound great and appear to be well made.
i believe they come with a lifetime guarantee too.

No, the limiter switch was not intended to shut them off, I believe it was for a different type detectors, and the switch was to reverse the wiring. But when you reverse it on the Etrac the audio blanks out. These are very high quality phones. Do not remember the warranty off the top of my head. You get what you pay for

One switch is a compatibility switch for different detectors, mono vs. stereo connector.. The limit switch, if you have one, is so you can crank the volume up to make the deep, quiet targets louder and keep the shallow targets from blowing your eardrums out ..

I have a pair of NDTs. Good frequency response, especially with higher frequency signals, whereas Koss' captured the lower frequencies better for me. So if you're looking for low conductors, you might consider another brand or stick with the Koss headpones. Dual volume controls, compact storage, and an extra detachable cable are the true value proposition for the NDTs IMHO. Hope this helps

That's interesting, I definitely don't want to be lacking on the lower tones. I use the E-Trac on the beach and it has done well at hitting Gold.

i just went shoppin for new headphones and i bought the sunray pro golds. i was lookin for quality verses money....and im more than satified with them. i get great sound on both the low and high tones and there is more volume than ill ever use(i hope). i compared the features to the gray ghosts and they are very similar. the sunrays also have a limited lifetime warrenty but they dont have the removable cable. theyre built pretty tough tho....aluminum cases, rubber covered switches, and i think theyre leather or somethin like it on the muffs. what i like best is the price.....120 bucks. got them from the detector depot in less than a week. i had a used pair of gray ghosts and they were an excellant choice too. very tough to break...took me a while. i got them fixed. i put speakers in them from a pair of accusound headphones that only lasted a year. now theyre my back-up phones. hope this helps -mike-

I have tried many top end phones and still prefer the Sunray Pro Golds for the E-Trac/Explorer units. But that is for my ears and my hearing or lack there of.Your best bet is to find a way to try 3 or 4 top branded phones plugged in to your machine and find the ones that suit your hearing and are comfortable on your noggin,Ray.

I used the Grey Ghost NDT's for several years (and several other top brands of h.p.'s) on my Explorers/Etrac.----I liked the NDT's ok but when I finally got the Sunray Pro Golds-there was no looking back.----Excellent tonal quality--picks up on those deep, difficult "hits" in an excellent fashion-- comfortable--just the right length of cord--durable (to name a few).---Naw, I don't sell 'em, just my 2 zincs worth!! :)---------Del

Well I have heard good comments on Sunray, Gray Ghosts and Rat phones. All I have ever used is the Koss that came with my machine, I have never even plugged in my Garrett phones to it. I can get the Gray Ghosts at dealer cost but will they pull out the deep low Gold Tones. Anyway Thanks for all your advice.

The most popular for the E-Trac is the Black Widows and the Gray Ghost Ultimates. From what I understand the E-Trac has a built in limiter there fore you can turn the limiter off on the headphones resulting in a higher volume on said target response.

I got the Gray Ghost Ultimate's for X-Mas - use them with the E-Trac - their fantastic !

All of the ones that i've tried seem great but in the end,I opted for the Killer B Hornets. The Ghosts are a great choice as well however.

I have the GG ultimates too and sort of like them. My complaint is the volume control has stops and I always seem to want a volume halfway between. Any one know a way around that?
