AQ Impulse headphones/earbuds

My stock headphones developed an intermittent. I did not see how to open the connector so I chopped it off and intend to make an adapter from the 5 pin output jack to a 3.5mm female receptacle and then put a 3.5mm plug on the headphones cord. I read some background on doing this that Steve posted on the DP site. He used the brown and grey wires to wire his wireless transmitter. I don’t see these as being correct for my cable though. I see the headset going to pins 5 and 3 or 4 (they are connected in the detector). I find that with grey pin 5 as common, white and black each have a +7V to +13.3V signal on them. This puts a dc bias on the headset or earbuds that is not generally thought as being a good idea. Wasted current and can blow out the earbuds. AI also suggests 1K resistor permanent load to prevent a pop on a load connect. I tried the earbuds and they are exceptionally loud. I haven’t tried adding a capacitor to AC couple the losds yet. I want to see what you guys have to say.
