Are We Really Eaten Up With This???

Today I thought I would check out another side walk and I found my first silver quarter with the E Trac. After digging up and freeing this earth of so much trash, clad, memorial pennies and even the wheaties are getting to be a pain but at least the wheaties tell me I'm in silver territory. Anyway when first I saw that piece of silver staring in my face I thought I was going to pee my pants. Are we really into this way too much that the excitement of seeing silver overwhelms us? Or is it just me... I mean this was just a 1953 Washington quarter that in 1964 there were millions and millions out there.
I guess what I'm saying is... "this is a great way to keep the adrenalin flowing."

Lol I almost had a heart attack when I found my first silver! Just a few weeks ago! Imagine what it's gonna feel like when we find gold!!!

Finding Silver coins is a big rush - every time !

finding my 1907 Barber Half brought me to my knees
finding my only Barber dime 1915 and only seated Liberty 1876 also brought great joy but
although I definitely enjoy finding silver if it is not at least a merc I have to admit there is some disappointment

Yes it is always nice to find Silver....Kemosabe

I've been in this hobby since 1968 when I was 22 years old. I'm now 65 and every time I dig a piece of Silver I'm still like a kid in a candy store. I get all excited and still get goose bumps. I probably will till the day they plant me. Rick IL

LOL! Happens all the time. At least on you tube! :yikes:

I'm like Ray. I feel satisfied just getting out and huntin'. If I can unearth a wheat or IH...I'm happy. When silver is unearthed I'm very happy.

I am 69 and have been hunting since around 1970 and I am telling you finding silver still fires me up! Here's a true little story for you, back in the 70's an old gentleman (85) called and wanted me to bring my detector to his house because he buried some money and couldn't find it back. I waited a couple of days because I was busy and he called again. I thought maybe he just buried a jar of money or something. Anyway, I took my detector to his house. He had a very large garage with a dirt floor out back. Inside the garage was a backhoe digging holes and they were looking for this buried money. The old guys son-in-law approached me and said I don't think the old so and so ever buried anything in here. There were other similar comments from other relatives that was there. The old guy said "I did bury money here but someone must of found it".
I looked around in the large building and thought if I were to bury anything in here it would probably be in a corner were I could find it back. I went to the northeast corner and started using my detector. I immediately found something that sounded like a barrel lid or something. I told them there is metal here but way to large to be money. They brought the back hoe over anyway and started digging. At about 3' down they found one of those old army wooden ammo boxes with the rope handles on the ends. The box was in real bad condition and the rope handles were rotten. They started pulling the boards away and there inside the old wooden box was seven old bank bags of coins. The old guy couldn't remember that he used the ammo box to bury the money in.
When they got the bags out of the hole and open them they found two of the bags filled with silver halves in rolls, two bags filled with rolls of silver quarters, two bags filled with rolls of silver dimes and one bag of just old loose silver dating back in the 1800's. When this money was located it was during the time when silver reached a record high. I think it was in the late 70's or early 80's. I never did hear how many thousands of dollars it was all worth. They even called the local bank president and they open the bank so the money could be put in a vault. After they got all the money out of the hole the old guy started digging through his wallet, (he had those coke bottle glasses on) and could see very good, and found a five dollar bill to give me for finding his money. I told him to keep it that I just like doing this for the fun of it.
In 1964, the last year for silver coins, the old guy had went to the bank and got all that silver then took it home and buried it. I guess he figured that someday it would be worth something and He was sure right.
I have always wondered if this old guy was the only one that ever did this or was there lots of old guys that might have done this. I am still looking for more.....maybe someday.

:surprised: Great Story!! Thanks Paul (IL).

Excellent story Swinger,

Thank you for sharing... I recently talked to an older State Trooper who had an individual who called monthly about someone stealing there money they buried. He would show up and review with the homeowner the situation and proceed to dig wear the supposed jar of money was with no show. The reply would be "see" it was stolen!!. He then involved the family with the issue he faced monthly and the calls had ceased for more than 6 months. He then recalls a call approx. 8 months later from the same gal. who had an issue with thieves and responded to find her in the back yard near the pine wood lot. He approached and asked what her complaint was and her reply was " i think some one was trying to steal my money". He asked wear she thought they were digging and she replied "right there, next to the oak". He then proceeded to the shed and retrieved a shovel and dug where she thought they robbed her. After digging an estimated 36" officer Jim ( no last name) said to the elder gal, " are you sure it was buried hear"? She then replied " I think it was more right or north of there". Officer Jim then proceeded to dig in the area of possibility and after 24" or so he recalled two mason or ball jars popping out and they were full of coin and cash. he estimates all was early 1920's- 30's. Way too cool of story.. This was me . "A kid in a candy store".
Story or not, The property that she lived is now the back yard of a sub-division. Your story ends with success and mine ends with :ban:

Thx 4 sharing,

Moose
