audio before visual

Roman Virgin

New member
Hi everybody in the USA. I live in Devon in the UK. Got my V3 about 2 weeks ago. Steep learning curve but I can see the potential so I persevere. At the moment I tend to use Factory setting ( Programme) Coin and Jewelery with a little increase on the Discrim and Sens. Getting some good results mostly large old copper pennies down as far as 12 inches. I have two questions for you more experienced users of the V3. I seem to be getting an audio signal of a target before I get Visual. The audio is not the sigle tone but a kind of "Hum".Not the threshhold sound but a different one. In other words sometimes I can hover over an audio signal which is just not strong enough to make the V3 switch on the visual side but when I dig it it turns out to be a good signal such as a coin. Is there more sensitivity on the audio side than the visual ?.Also I noticed that as head approaches a target there sometimes seems to be a "Negative " sound. In other words it goes quiet with no sound at all when you are directle over the target. Of course the signal is so weak that it doesn't trigger the single tone or the visual meter response. I hope that this makes sense. The other question is I am looking for a setting that will give me more chance of finding "Roman" coins at 8 inches plus. Some Roman coins can be very small, as small as 10 centimeters and made out of Bronze. I would be happy to find any Roman coin at the moment . As you can tell from my title I am still a Roman Virgin. I will be visiting some very good sights soon with an excellent chance of finding my first Roman. I want to be more confident with the V3 before then and would love to get some suggestions as to what would be the best settings. I know it depends on things like ground mineralisation etc but a rough guide would be such a great help. I would finally like to say what a great site/forum this is with so many friendly helpful dedicated people who all have the same thing in common. To get the best out of our machines so that we can get the maximum enjoyment out of such a wonderful hobby. I look forward to hearing from such knowledgable and dedicated detectorists. Than you in anticipation. " Roman Virgin "

Most detectors I've owned with the screen, reacted first to audio first then video so I think that's common. Yes I sometimes hear that buzz before it reacts to a target.

May i ask how much the vision is been sold for in uk. How much did you pay. I am thinking of buying one eventually.......

I find the same - and at times on a deep target I get audio and the display don't respond.
Always audio first, then if the audio gets my attention (not all broken up) and I can get some repeatable audio hits, then I'll look at the display. The audio responds to the deepest targets and if I can't establish a display, then the dig will be by audio. It's like two separate circuits, and one more sensitive (audio) than the other.

Hello Doctorcoinz, this is Roman Virgin from the UK. Thanks for your reply to my question. To answer your question about UK price. If you shop around in the treasure hunting magazines you can get it for

I think I have to back Dave and Tab up on their advise. I go by the audio and everything else are just tools to help with the audio.
