Awesome first hunt of the year! :detecting:

It's been unseasonably warm here in Michigan, but up until this evening I had resisted the urge to do any January detecting. There's a big cold front and snow on the way tomorrow, so I figured today would be my last chance before Spring. Now I'm regretting not going out earlier! :rage:

No sooner did I get to the park I planned on hunting when I discovered that they had drained a pond to repair the seawall. I went from grass hunting mode, to detecting in the mud and I'm glad that I did. In just 2 1/2 hours I picked up 4 silver Washingtons (1959, 1956, 1941 and 1946). 2 Mercs (1941, 1936), 2 Wheaties (Can't read the dates yet) and a cool .925 silver ring with an Eagle on it. All these were found in about a 100-200 foot strip and the pond is at least 5 acres. Unfortunately, tomorrow Winter returns and the entire area will be frozen solid within the next few days.

I'll post some better pics when I get them all cleaned up, and tomorrow I'm ditching all responsibilities and spending the entire day hitting the lake bottom. I plan on video taping at least some of it, and will post as soon as I return.

Very nice!!!
Bunker

nice haul there, that ring is cool.

Thanks! I can't wait to get back at it tomorrow morning. I cleaned up the ring a bit and it looks like there are some stones in it. There's a red stone for the eye, and 6 other small (diamonds?) lined up along the back of it's head.

OUTSTANDING

It is great you finally got out there!

The Ring is really special and the SILVER

If you had been going out before you may have missed the opportunity to detect the drained pool

Don't beat yourself up, the timing was meant to be

Oh man four silver washingtons in one day.....thanks for the close up i thought they were clad at first. man. you GOT to get out to that pond....dress warm and get to diggin sir!:detecting:

Excellent hunt ! :clapping:

Well, the weather didn't cooperate yesterday as we had spotty rain showers pretty much all day. I was able to get out for just under 3 hours wearing a rain coat, waders and with the environmental cover on the Etrac. When the rain picked up I started to get some strange feedback on the E-Trac, so I called it a day.
I still managed to pick up 3 more silver Washingtons and one 1994 clad Washington (My first Washington of the year that wasn't silver .). So in my first 5 hours this season I'm up to 7 silver Washingtons, 2 mercs, 1 silver ring, a couple Wheaties, and a very small earring that appears to be gold or gold filled, but is unmarked. The good news is the pond isn't going to be refilled until Spring so that they can paint the seawalls, so I should have a chance to hit it again.

Picture below is the silver from both hunts:

Cool finds

It went back to the drained lake today, but the frozen ground made for some difficult hunting (The high temp here today was only 26 degrees :surrender:). In just under 3 hours I found 2 more silver Washingtons (1942 and 1943), 1 Merc (1941) and 31 cents if crusty clad. Hopefully I won't have to wait until the Spring thaw to hit it again..

great finds....Im in Toronto area so I know what you mean by winter...Orginally from North Carolina so after 5 years here, cant wait till spring. Doing all my honey do's for the wife so no excuse when weather gets nice , Im GONE all day..hahah
