It's been unseasonably warm here in Michigan, but up until this evening I had resisted the urge to do any January detecting. There's a big cold front and snow on the way tomorrow, so I figured today would be my last chance before Spring. Now I'm regretting not going out earlier!
No sooner did I get to the park I planned on hunting when I discovered that they had drained a pond to repair the seawall. I went from grass hunting mode, to detecting in the mud and I'm glad that I did. In just 2 1/2 hours I picked up 4 silver Washingtons (1959, 1956, 1941 and 1946). 2 Mercs (1941, 1936), 2 Wheaties (Can't read the dates yet) and a cool .925 silver ring with an Eagle on it. All these were found in about a 100-200 foot strip and the pond is at least 5 acres. Unfortunately, tomorrow Winter returns and the entire area will be frozen solid within the next few days.
I'll post some better pics when I get them all cleaned up, and tomorrow I'm ditching all responsibilities and spending the entire day hitting the lake bottom. I plan on video taping at least some of it, and will post as soon as I return.
