No silver this time but still a very happy camper.I think the Indian and token will clean up well after a good olive oil soak:thumbup: I added a pic of the same type token I found on the net.And the back in following post.

Now how cool is that?
Some great finds once again Ray!
Are those the old brass shotgun shells?
It just doesn't get any better, absolutely fantastic!
Thanks for sharing the great finds!

Great finds Ray.

Have you ever tried the peroxide method on those Indians?

Take some Peroxide and nuke it in the Microwave just until it starts spewing and stop the M.wave. Take the Indian and drop it in the peroxide. It will start fizzing. When the fizzing stops, take the coin out and use a peroxide dampened Q-Tip and rub it lightly. I have done this to a number of mine Indians and they came out great. May have to reheat the peroxide a time or 2 and repeat the process, but it has really worked good for me.

Yes I just started using it a few days ago and it does work well if you dont over do it.I am debating trying it on the token and 1866,Ray.

man ray, that place is loaded!!!!!!:clapping:

Hi Ray,

I've not used Olive oil on coins before, is it effective? Do you use it on silver as well?

Do you have any advice on using olive oil?

Cheers,
Greg

Nice finds, Ray!

I'm not a coin expert but I have soaked Indians in olive oil for up to a month and didn't do crap! The same goes for the ketchup on the nickel trick.

Love the token! (and the 1866 IH isn't too shabby by any means either)

I'd suggest experimenting with Memorial cents or common Wheats before jumping on the Indians with any type of cleaning. Peroxide has worked better for me than olive oil, but about a year ago I switched to Magic Eraser instead of peroxide, since peroxide will darken the coins. Silver I only just rinse.

(and the coin collectors always warn against any type of cleaning - a warning well heeded for coins of value).
