Back to the "quarter field."

Had about decided to give up on the big field as good targets of any kind had become few. There was a stretch between the field and a baseball field I hadn't spent much time on, so was thinking of working that a bit. As I drove up to the spot, I noticed the mowers were mowing the big field and had just finished mowing the front part where I (we) usually park. The last time they mowed the field they hadn't mowed the front stretch and the grass had gotten very tall. We have all made sweeps over the front area and it is quite a bit trashier then out in the field. Consequently, I decided to give it a good shot and switched from the 11"dd to the 5"dd. Right off the bat I hit a shallow wheat cent about 2" away from a piece of can slaw. I ended up digging several ring tabs that were bouncing around the nickel range and did end up digging 3 nickels, 1 a 1921 Buffalo. Also sniffed out 2 Mercury dimes, a 38 and a 45, along with a couple pieces of clad and a Memorial cent. It should also be mentioned that I had hunted this front area a few years ago with a CZ3D and my regular F 75, and had taken several silvers out of it back then. F 75 LTD, 5" coil, sen 90, disc 4, B P mode, 4h tones and a g b of 66-67. HH jim tn

Wow! Nice! So when you say "We have all made sweeps over this area" you mean you guys missed those Mercs? Thats good to know! Glad to hear it, gives a guy hope! I bet it was hot there today...we started off a nice balmy 49 this am!

Mud, started out with 59 here with a high of 79 forecast. Short cold front, though. Crowding 90 tomorrow, if I remember correctly. A couple of fellow club members and buddies of mine have all hunted on the spot. Me, however, much more then them. When I say "sweeps,"we fire up our detectors right in front of our vehicles and make a few token passes over this front area on out way out onto the big field. There are low spots where water often sets, weeds and tall grass when infrequently mowed and over the years a meeting area for whom ever and ultimately, a good bit of trash. I can attest, one never gets it all, ever. HH jim tn

Nice Finds jim. Its always rewarding to pick silver out of the ground. Plus wheats and buffalo's. I'm waiting for the weather to break. Rain rain rain here in MA. HH Tim

5" coil near the parking area? A must do, as good as anywhere on the field in some parks. Nice finds among that trash!

ez, no. Nothing older then wheats, Mercs, buffalo, Standing Lib quarters and Walker halves. It is not to far from a Navy base that was big and very active from the early 40's-the mid 80's. The area was probably a cotton field before that. HH jim tn

Nice finds!
Definitely good work with the 5".

I am saving mine for a special little area myself as soon as I can pull away from the kids again.

See Jim that just puts me in high gear to get my 5" ordered ;)

Congrats on the goods.

Nice finds Jim..... So, do you think it was the switch to the 5inch coil or was it the LTD that helped you find those missed coins.. or both? Cant believe the cz-3d didnt pick up on those silvers but that LTD is a powerful machine

It is a pretty trashy spot, so know the 5" definitely was a asset. jim tn could have missed them, though, with the other detectors. I've hunted behind him more then once and found things he has missed. HH jim tn
