Banning detectors

The problem is some people don't like you digging holes in parks , mostly it has nothing to do with the finds you are removing it's the holes you dig that annoys some folk!. I quit hunting parks a few years ago because to be honest it is not worth the hassle with police and park keepers etc......Detecting on parks here in the UK is a no no for any one with any sense. Too much hassle by far. I like stubble fields and pasture...

Life has enough restrictions already without detecting being taken away. Our country gets closer and closer to communism all the time. The forefathers would roll over if they were able to see what this country has become and where it's going! What good is it to let the objects of the past and present stay buried to rot when these marvels of history should be brought to the surface for all to enjoy. We need to stand together for our rights as Americans and not let our freedoms get stolen from us! Permission to detect private property is not always available and that leaves many with one option, "public property". The hard working mans tax dollars fattens the wallets of politicians, and this is how we get treated: this restriction, that restriction, fine you this, judge you that. I was told by a park ranger there was no detecting allowed on the beach at a state park! American tax dollars and state fees pay this mans salary and keep this park open for the general public use and he threatened to confiscate my machine and give me a fine if i were to detect there.

In a country/world filled with terror, financial crisis and natural disasters, what in the name of God disturbs the cretinous levels of these people's minds?

I cannot imagine a more peaceful, pacifying and pleasurable pastime, as that of metal detecting.

I have no doubt that the majority of objectors, if psycologically examined, would reveal some underlying personal problems that cause their anxieties.

Their complaining, is symptomatic of a personality disorder, for which they seek an easy target.

I have in the past, have physically needed to defend myself, and the confiscation of my equipment, from 'ignorant thugs' employed by local councils, despite having written permission from their employers, and having notified the police of our permitted visits to the parks. Our club (Here in the UK) had taken great care to negotiate with authorities, for permission to practice our hobby.

We deliberately and thoughtfully only requested permission to detect, during the autumn and winter seasons, in order to limit any temporary disturbance of the surface soil etc.

Even so, many years later, I believe permission has been revoked for reasons unknown to me.

Still people tear up the grass playing football, riding their mountain bikes, dog fouling, littering with trash and bottles ....ad infinitum.

Perhaps I should take up shooting as a hobby?

Kill birds and other Innocent creatures of nature......maybe, if I become as paranoid as these complainants, and object to their annoying me....I'll shoot one of them.

In the past, I have recovered dozens of live rounds of ammunition, even a hand grenade and an unexploded world war 2 small bomb.

My hobby of metal detecting doesn't cost the tax payer a plugged nickel, nor invade their enjoyment rights. It threatens no one.

So please go away, and don't annoy me....The Marshall

The ban was defeated due to people getting involved. However the reason the ban was considered was because of a couple folks detecting and not being considerate. Someone snapped some folks digging, not filling their holes. Not sure if this is the same ones digging in the cemeteries and Indian burial areas. It just takes one bad apple to ruin it for the rest of the folks.

The local hunters (or club) need to try and find out who these morons in the pictures are, and if they are local, talk with them put some peer pressure on them to do right.

They know who it is and they have been a problem in the past....

the detector police need to heavily fine these guys or give them some Community Service to do in the parks. Anyone caught not filling their holes should be punished or else all of us will suffer! Heck anyone witnessing this type of activity should report it to authorities.

Good to see so many passionate about this hobby! We must stay ever diligent in maintaining our rights, so long as we are all following a specific code of ethics in this awesome hobby. Ahh... The Beep beckons and i must heed its call as it's been too long ignored. HH everyone
