Beautiful Big Silver

Ohio bud

New member
I had a Compass job on a Government Research Boat today in Sandusky. Thought I would take my E-Trac along in case I got finished in time to do a little detecting. I got finished at 1:30 and that gave me 2 hours. There are several parks in the town that I wanted to try, so I went to the first one. I got a few Wheats and some new surface Quarters when I got what I thought would be another shallow quarter. I got down and couldn't pick it up with the probe. I figured it must be a little deaper and remembering that I didn't want to scratch what ever it was like I did the 1831 British Coin I got a week ago. I cut a plug and turned it over and could see the edge of a very large silver sticking out. I thought it was my first Silver Dollar. It turned out to be a 20 Francs coin, dime is for sizing. That's what I love about this hobby. What is a French coin from 1933 doing in a town park in Ohio?

Very nice! I'm with you--one of the best parts about this hobby is the surprises that come out of the ground. Nice story and picture. Thanks for posting.
