Best Day In The Dirt!

New member
Although I have been a beach hunter for about 10 years, I have recently been doing some relic hunting and coin shooting in the field adjacent to my house in Williamsburg, VA. So far, I have found a Lucky Lindy token (1927), a Presidential Token (Grover Cleveland 1885-1889), a Guaranty Bank and Trust $10 Coin (192:geek:, 35 Wheaties, 3 Indians, 12 Unidentifiable Pennies and 2 Roosevelt Silver Dimes. Two issues, anything copper comes out of the ground looking terrible and not sure why the silver is so few and far between - it rings out VERY clear on the eTrac. :detecting:

Only had about two hours to hunt today before it got dark and I found 11 more wheaties (I think), 3 unidentifiable, 1 Roosevelt Dime, a strange lucky coin pendant and MY FIRST GOLD RING found in dirt!: extrahappy:!!!!!!! Wheaties were dated: 1913, 1920, 1932, 1941, 1942, 1945, 1945, 1945, 1946, 1951, 1953. Previous coins taken from this site in the past week had dates ranging from 1900 (Indian) to 1919. :surprised:

Best part about it, I have only begun to attack this area. I could literally hunt these fields for years. One field housed a WWII POW camp, another field had a slave camp, another field housed WWII/Korean War military units and yet another field has the last home of the Governor of the COLONY of VA - dated 1715 - can't go near there, its a National Landmark. :clapping:

Today's finds are posted below. Any help identifying the significance of the ring would be greatly appreciated - it has very distinctive markings that must mean something. I couldn't find anything on the internet.

Hey Shayne,

Thanks for the pictures and congratulations on the finds!

East Carolina Teachers Training School (ECTTS). Established on 08 March 1909. All woman school until it graduated its first male in 1932. Did I mention that the ring I found is approximately a size 5 woman's ring! Not to mention the dates of the coins found in the same vicinity of the ring are consistent with the establishment of ECTTS. Makes you wonder...some more about the school:
