Bullet and Shield

I found this 50 caliber Civil War bullet and a 1869 Shielded Nickel about 15 feet apart using my new Excelerator 4.5x7" DD coil. The soil was a moist sandy loam and easy to dig. The bullet was about 10 -11 inches down and the coin about 6 -7 inches.

Two firsts in one day.

My first civil war relic and my first non clad coin. Yippee for me! :detecting:

Very nice Shield Nickel !

Are u serious that is your FIRST non clad coin? A superb shape shield nickel.....wow amazing. That nickel is worth far more than your bullet

I guess technically no. I have found some pre 1983 copper pennies, but no Indian heads, dimes, nickels, or quarters before 1965. I don't consider finding a 1960 copper penny a big deal, but some might.

I have found several other trinkets, but as far as US legal tender coins go this one is the best I've found so far.

Maybe I could more accurately say: This is my first pre 1900 coin or my first coin that is worth more than a 2011 paper dollar. :)

I'm in the process of developing better techniques and finding better sites so I'm sure I'll have better success in the future.
