Hi all,

i am interessted in buying the latest excalibur can someone please advise me of the latest model, we women need a little help i don't want to be buying old stock.

Happy hunting, sorry about the first message my keyboard is playing up. Maureen (thirdbornau)

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have been reading up about the Excalibur and read so much negative stuff it put me off somewhat, some people swore it was the best then it swayed totally the opposite way so i got confused as a pensioner i don't want to buy a money gussler with repairs.

Before reading all the negative comments i was sure i wanted the Excalibur but now i am at a halt maybe it's better to wait until i hear some good comments..

Happy hunting and thanks for your help..Maureen (Thirdbornau)

Maureen, The only thing I can say for sure is that with any detector you will hear both positive and negative comments. Personally, I have never used an Excaliber 2 but I believe it to be one of the best out there. I've also heard a lot of great things about the Sovereign GT and DF(which I now am using). There are other good machines as well. All detectors have features that may suit your needs or not. All detectors have their supporters and detractors. HH!

i had the xcal 1000 for 8 months and now i have the xcal2 and i love it ..but u have to take your time and learn it

they have been on back order from Dec 09 so any new order will be new stock.you cant go wrong with the Excal ll..iv had 2 of them and wish id never sold them! iv got one on back order from Dec 28th and was told they should ship sometime in April .

Thanks once again and i guess you are right on that point, i was told i wouldn't like the explorer11 and that it would be too heavy but i manage very well and am really happy with it.
I can hire an Excalibur here in Perth so i think that is a good way to go then i can find out how i like it.

Thanks once more and Happy hunting all. Maureen (thirdbornau)

Maureen, I bought my Excalibur in June of last year, I have at least found 40 rings with it. In my case there are three things that have led to my success with the Exc. 1) finding a beach area that has been detected very little 2) buying probably one of the best beach / water machines 3) being willing to take time and learn how to use the machine.
My land Metal Detector is a Whites MXT , I first got my Excalibur II I cranked it up and went "OH NO". I went into shock at the "sounds", I started to dig and dig and bought CliveClynicks books all 4 of them and Tony Dana's sound CD.
I read the books and listened to the tapes and went into the local lake and immediately found 2 gold rings, I was and still am hooked. If you do a search on this site "Mexico" you should be able to see a picture of my lat es finds while in Mexico.
Read all of Surfdiggers messages, gulfhunter, oldbeecnut, gene Edwards emails, the excal is a challenge but well worth learning.
Maureen, the only thing I might suggest is buy the 8 in coil as it is easier to swing in the water and easier pin pointing, I bought the 10 and after swinging it for 6 hrs think an 8 inch might be better:detecting:
Please keep us up to date with your finds from the beach regardless of what machine you get.

You can't go wrong with a Excalibur or the the New excal II, Went this past weekend with some friends to the beach. One was a 12 year old boy {Ryan} Using his dads new Excal II 1000, It was a little heavy for him,.... but his first time out he dug more coins and silver then his dad using a DFX, and more silver then me! I set his machine up in discriminate Using VB Max's, And Gulfhunters setting. So in short, change the shaft to strait shaft, the excal 800 is a good choice but with less coverage, but lighter and easier in the water. If the goodies are on the beach, you will have the best chance of finding them with the Excalibur, and dig less junk. Video of the hunt

Good Luck...Joe

You will not be sorry you got an Excalibur II. All machines have a learning curve. But you won't be digging fish hooks or bobbie pins or any thing else iron unless you want to. They go deep and they don't lie to you. Most people that own one love them. It will pay for itself in no time. And they are good land machines as well, I can't imagine anyone that has had one for any length of time wanting anything else. I'm retired and have used a lot of machines and can honestly say it's the best water machine I have used. If you get one and have any questions this forum is the place to get answers. Good luck with whatever choice you decide on. HH :minelab::detecting:

You go ahead and buy another brand don't buy the Excalibur !!
Then if you come down my way stop me and introduce yourself!
Then after we've chatted I'll walk right behind you and pick up everything
you missed !!
Enough said

Maureen,
I've had my Excal II for about 15 months, but have only had limited chances to use it, mainly on the NSW mid north coast. I've found that each time I use it I learn that little bit more about its capabilities, and am finding deeper and older rings and things...I like the machine and it operates well wherever I've used it. On thing I did when I first bought the Excal was to buy Clive Clynick"s books on the Excalibur...they have been invaluable. Good luck.

Just got my Excal 2 this afternoon and it is currently charging. Hope to get out to the beach Tuesday to give her a try. In the mean time have been reading owners manual; reading group emails and looking at online video to see how to use the MD.
