Well I got back yesterday and a usual I was second best. My only silver was a 43P war nickel and some Wheats. [attachment 177695 c3.jpg]
I did get a 05 and 06 Indian and my oldest nickel yet a 1870.[attachment 177696 c2.jpg]
I also found some fishing licenses and coal tags. [attachment 177697 c1.jpg]
I came up second best out of two but still had a good time. Rob

Ah come-on Rob, second isn't bad when you have finds like you have. Heck that beautiful Shield is worth more than both of my Seated finds. :clap: Besides, what kind of price tag can you put on the weekend we had?? Priceless...:beers: Congratulations on the Shield.
 
I didn't smell nothing and if you think YOU were "skunked".........Let's talk! :cry: That Shield nickel is one heck of a find and also the war nickel. Last I checked, that war nickel has a percentage of silver in it. So that makes a "silver" find. I love those fishing net license tags too, not to mention the coal tags that you found. Those are priceless in my book.
 
Nice find on the Shield Rob, It looks like its it pretty good shape. That's a coin I've yet to find this year. Good hunt.
 
That Shield nickel is one heck of an eye catcher. She's a beauty for sure. I just wish I could have seen your face when you rescued it from the ground. Great find Rob! It was meant to be. ;) HH and your friend, Nancy
 
I believe I have one that looks just like it that was my great-great grandmothers.

Does the metal appear to be aluminium to you?
 
Very nice finds,The sheild nickle is exceptional, I would have been tickled pink to get the shield nickle and the indians.
What was the vdi on them and how deep were they?

Jim, I dug so many coins on the weekend I don't remember all the VDI. One Indian was around 5" and the other was deep between 8 and 9". The guard on my Lesche was a good 2 " in the hole. The nickel was between 22 and 23 and around 4 - 5". Many of my Indians give a jumpy Vdi 50 - 70. Rob

Hummm - I need new camp spots. All I ever found at camp spots was a little clad, few spent shell, a little fishing gear (junk), but a nice big load of junk that kept me from snoozing and falling into the camp fire. So I let my buddy once give a detector a try and he found a nice hunting knife that was under a piece of bark - grrrrrrrrrrr
