My friend Gerry McMullen (Gerry's Detectors- Boise,ID) sent me this information yesterday. I have found Gerry to be a man of his word. He was responding to an ongoing problem I experienced this summer getting my Excalibur repaired. He was most helpful and I now have it back.I tested the Excalibur II this week and found it to be better than when I took it out of the box. I did not get over any rings with it but it was routinely picking up coins at 18 inches depth in salt water

" I just returned from Minelab conference and have great news.

1st off, the #1 complaint from all Minelab dealers was the turn around time on repairing detectors.

Here is what has changed to make things better.

Minelab goal in the near future, is for all machines other than Excal to be turning around in approx 2 weeks. The last 30 days, has shown a great progress with an average of 14 days (excluding Excal). Some sooner than 14 and a few less.

The new Techs are the most trained of any Minelab has ever had in the US and they just returned from Australia recently with their certificates.

We dealers were not aware of the time it takes for Excals to be repaired, so we had no way to inform you (the customer). At the conference us dealers were all updated/informed on the repair times for Excals and now realize some of the delay. The resin that seals both end caps is very tricky and has to completely dry prior to testing. The old way of testing in US was not sufficient as what will be happening very soon.

Minelab just purchased a high end testing tool and submersible tank to accurately test the Excals. The new repair time will get sped up some, but not to where the land units are as all water machines take longer. The big issue to me was that Minelab USA was not passing this info down to the dealers and customers and Minelab USA was not explaining why the delay. If dealers knew this info, we could have updated you (the customer) which is better than no update at all.

If I heard it correctly, the Excals new test piece will not only speed up the testing but ensure a more uniform test and cut back on the few that were sent out and still did not run properly.

Peter Charlsworth (CEO of Minelab Australia) made it very clear that Minelab USA will get their repair times down and more compared to their Australia facilities which averages less than 7 days."

This is good news as mine Excalibur took 54 days 32 work days to get back but I am confident the machine is better than when I purchased it 10 months ago.steve

Lets use yours as a benchmark. It took me 10 weeks to get mine back, including shipping time. I would be happy with a 3 week turn-around including shipping: Two weeks in the shop and 3 days shipping each way. Good Luck

This is GREAT news !!.... ANY news is better than NO news !!....If I decide to purchase an Excal II , I will wait until they catch up on their backlog of repairs .... I'm sure , like anything else, this will all take time to implement .. .....Jim

The Excalibur is the hardest of the detector's to repair. Minelab has to be sure that it will not leak when returned.

Repair time with turn-around if I remember correctly is at 30 days. Which is in the window of time Dan mentioned.

Thanks for the post. Maybe they will start answering and returning e-mails and phone calls. Thanks again for posting. HH :minelab:

wow im so glad ive not had any problems with my excalibur 2 1000 works great...check out my facebook page and see my finds.
good luck to all who have had issues, if its electronic its goona break sometime but you just gotta take a bit more care of your machine yourself to avoid some problems..

That sounds well and good, but how long has minelab been in business and now they get service tools for repairs.
I have minelabs and i think they are great machines. Resin takes longer to dry you say i don't think it takes two months. But anyway keep up the pressure on them and things will get better. Maybe they should also focus on making sure there product is correct before it leaves and they might not have as many repairs.

You hit the nail on the head vrf800, quality control at base, if they came from the factory in perfect working order lots of the repairs mentioned here would not be needed, most electronics can break down with use but not as many out of the box failures

I am waiting on my 3rd new machine to arrive, all the is now going over a month long .. this is really ridiculous especially when purchased brand new, so here I wait like a dang idiot agian..so they will get another call from me, nothing broken promise for Ewout.. am highly annoyed/

ML is taking very good care with me and my new excal.. so soon it will all be aok.. I still think they make the best machines on the market.. wouldnt use anything else to honest.

Well... can you imagine the nightmare it would be if Fisher or Teknetics had this sort of service turnaround problem... they waould be out of business, they make good machines but a lot of them seem to have to sent back sooner or later, sometimes more than once. All the GBSE early releases had to be sent back. My T2 has been back three times, original F75 had to go back, LTD has not been back yet and Omega is fine so far...

Never had a problem with a Minelab... thank goodness. I'd like to have a Excalibur one day for beach use but I think 2 maybe 3 weeks at the outside is long enough to service any detector. White's usually gets a machine back to the user in a week maybe 10 days, FTP maybe 2 weeks... no reason ML shouldn't fix and get any detector back to the user in 2 weeks.

ML, sorry your not understanding my posts.. I have not posted everything concerning my excal problems.. I am however, having my 3rd machine tested locally here by a pro hunter, so far the last two excals were defective.. I had a communication problem with one of the customer service folks, Now however, Gary has stepped in and is helping me with this threshhold problem .. Once my machine is tested by brian aka surfdigger then I will know for sure what the problems are with it... However, either way, with Gary stepping in, one way or the other it will all work out.... no need for me to go into super details since I am obviously not a regular poster here on this site.. I still think ML makes the best machines, and I know its been rough with the ML ownership changes... thats all..

Wouldn't you be frustrated with a 3rd machine being sent to you... sheez.

I had to send mine in 4X.... then they sent me a new one........

Threshold problems.. then faulty soldering, and Wired Wrong..

But, All is better now..
