So yesterday I was MD'ing this little creek by my house because as I have driven by and noticed quite a bit of activity around the little creek. I only found 55 cents in the creek itself, it was fun wading and detecting in the water. As i was detecting i came across two young guys skim boarding on the fine gravel placers in the creek, they noticed the etrac and asked if i had been up under the bridge, I replied not yet why..... They come back with, there is a safe under the bridge you should check it out, I said thanks and worked my way downstream to the bridge; when I got there they were telling the truth, a 2 1/2 - 3 foot or so little safe lay across the creek up on the bank...
I climbed up to the road crossed the bridge and got a closer look at the safe, set the etrac down and rolled it over, STILL LOCKED!!! I'm thinking CHA CHING!!! Well, on the bottom of photo 1 you can see a very small area in the corner peeled back, looks like they took a jigsaw and using one of the 4 floor mounting holes cut about 4-5 inches at right angles and peeled it back to make a hole large enough to get a hand in there... I could see the cash register drawers still inside and got to thinking, if there is a shelf on top there would be no way to get to it if the door is closed, at least that's the way my shelves are on my safe, I have a big ole Liberty Lincoln 35 gun bad boy and if they stacked the cash up top WOOOOHOOOO... I flipped it back on its side and headed on home... told both of my boys and they were up for the adventure.
This morning we got up and grabbed a sledge hammer, two BIG A$$ pry/breaker bars and headed to the creek.. booyaa, safe still there... well it took all of about 15 minutes to get that door off and ...... it was full of silt
and cash register drawers... we started to remove the drawers and one of my boys found 2 clad quarters stuck together, I'm thinking good sign, had my youngest boy high tail it back to the truck to get my sand sifter (farberware hand colander) he returned and we started sifting the silt out in the creek... Well about 20 - 30 little sand sifter fulls and we were looking for another solution... I have a pretty good sized old green recycle box i keep up against the cab with a load lock in the back of my F-250 for tossing groceries or what ever else I don't want rolling around in the bed.
I decided to pull the truck over to that side of the creek and found an old bleach bottle on the way... Jake, (my youngest) and I grabbed the green box, the bleach bottle my old Army e-tool and a reusable grocery store bag and went back down to the safe... we were able to fit all the silt and sand out of the safe into these containers and hooked it back to the house. Once back at the house I used one of my shrimp/crab steamer pot inserts and hit her with the garden hose, this worked WAY better than the little hand sifter in the creek
Well, all told I'm not gonna be able to go to the Chevy dealer tomorrow morning and get that new Z06 I'd love to have.... We ended up with 13.96 in clad and 5 movie house tokens... we figured the safe came from a local theater so I googled and hit all the local news station web sites to no avail... So, in the end we had a ball and 4.65 cents each!!!! great time with my boys overall, not everyday you find a safe, locked and are able to open it with money inside... what a GREAT hobby!!!
